Going back to the GB discussion, in what world is GB "free"? you're spending 3-4x the price on your mac as you would a Pc to get the same specs, so where does that money go? It goes to the "free" programs included with macs. So comparing GB as a "free" program cannot be done.
That being said, Presonus has to continue to add features to S1, if they do not, they will be left in the dust of the other DAW's. So asking Presonus to "not bloat" is entirely different than asking Presonus to "not add any more features". It would be best to ask them to continue adding as many features as they can, but to only add high quality features. Features that run smoothly, are well integrated, do not clutter up the GUI, etc. Features are not the problem of most DAW's, its the way the features are introduced and encorperated.

We can all agree your average Mac costs more than an on-paper spec equivalent PC, but let's keep our math realistic here, shall we? 3 to 4 times more for a Mac? In what world are YOU living in? lol.

Regarding Garageband, no nothing is free. We pay in one way or another for every product and accessory we get with it. But it is pretty amazing for any off-the-shelf computer to include a DAW that's as in depth as Garageband. People are making real records with it. Though I'd never use it myself (I don't like it at all), it's definitely light years from anything included with Windows (Paint, Movie Maker, etc).

Well, that's not entirely true, comparable performance yes. Same spec'd machines would cost roughly the same for Mac / PC. But you pay for the software onboard nevertheless. It's part of the default package.

But is a great package that you get, especially for those starting out.

In my world I bought a computer with a faster processor, 2x the ram, and a considerably better graphics card for $500, whereas the closest comparable Mac cost $2500 so really you can 5x... My math is nothing to insult, I hit the mark right on. As I said before, the other money goes towards the OS, the built in software, etc. I'm not trying to start a Mac vs. Pc argument, I'm merely stating a fact that s1 is not comparable to GB by price.

I've recently bought two macs after doing a component indentical calculation on a PC (same parts) and that costs about the same or even a little more. (and I'm shutting up now. I also run two PC's with much pleasure and I'm totally fine with both PC and Mac).

Anyway, it's not comparable. And it's not even comparable with Logic as that comes in at $150 or so. But then again, I don't like Logic, GB is even worse for what I want to do. So it's not even comparable in terms of features either. Like I stated earlier, use the tools that fit you and your workflow best. In the end it's the music that counts.

Yeah, in my own experience of GB, its like a mix of Audacity and S1 Artist. Its fantastic for entry level mixes, or even people who dont need to do mixes often.
