I know just last week Shure put out their new digital hybrid wireless stuff. Haven't had a listen to it yet. I wish they'd put it in something other than their PGX series. Those housings are a pain to rack up.

If the price is similar for both I think I'm gonna stick with the L-6 stuff. Easier to rack and more flexibility in the mic modelling. Downside is limited to either 6 or 12 systems and the 6 version doesn't have the modelling capability.

Hi szurbrick: The graphics in VSL and SL Remote are not shared. As you'll notice from the video, there are two pages in SL Remote that don't even exist in VSL

So, SL Remote always has faders for volume control regardless of the screen resolution of the computer you're connecting to wirelessly.

Thanks - that's what I thought, but didn't want to find out the hard way later. I've already bought and sold a laptop that was not SL friendly. Hoping the Ipad would work connected wirelessly to my Dell laptop running XP. I had trouble connecting my wife's older G4 based laptop to the Dell.

I think I can tie in the sidetrack "line 6" discussion with the original subject..... Here goes .....

So is there any chance this app won't be approved? I ask because I don't want to buy an Ipad, which I really don't have a justifiable use for otherwise. I bought the Line 6 XD-V70, probably one of the first 100 sold, on the premise that it was going to work with my Audix OM5 capsule as advertised. Long story short I discovered it didn't, worked with Line 6 to confirm and they ended up removing all mention of the compatibility with Audix.

The good news is I still love the mic and find the included capsule acceptable. The bad news is, Line 6 made the Audix compatibility claim based on needing a 3rd party adapter ring from Rat Sound. Line 6 claims Rat changed the design and they no longer work (I have my doubts). The point is relying on a 3rd party is a crap shoot. Even if they approve it, will it be in the predicted few weeks, or is it really the Apple, when we get around it?

szurbrick -

That's always the risk of being an early adopter- you become a Beta tester. I bought an iPad as soon as this was announced but I think Presonus is just an enabler. I wanted one anyways and they just allowed me to put it on a depreciation schedule. I think it would have been a stretch to claim it as a business expense otherwise.

I see you're using an Alienware machine. I just sent an email to Rick asking if it's been tested with windows based machines. I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the "magic smoke" that allows the ipad to be hooked up to the laptop, but utilize a native ipad app to control the machine. So the Ipad actually recognizes the host machine is running VSL and the ipad is not just a dumb VCN client looking at the host screen.

While I'm not a programmer I have played one on TV...I think everyone needs to unlink their brains from the whole Vnc or rdc environment. Now I'm just guessing but I'm assuming that the actual data flow between the app and the vsl host is fairly minimal, similar to midi commands. Once you eliminate the need for shared graphics and the high amount of data required to flow back and forth to support it you end up with simple parameter change commands. Open up a couple of ports to support the communication and you're there (wasn't that great how I marginalized what was probably thousands of hours of programming?!?).

I'm also going to assume that because of this architecture that the platform (Mac vs PC) becomes less of an issue.

At least I hope...

Edited twice because iPad virtual keyboards kinda suck

Well I ordered an Ipad a few hours ago. For those interested, the Apple store has refurbs for around $100 off new. They have same 1 yr warranty, new shell, new packaging. It makes me wonder if they are refurbs at all. I noticed the marketing is "limited time pricing" and not "limited quantities". Anyway, you can save a few bucks.

Im going on craigslist, 100 bucks off sounds nice, Ive had good luck with refurbs, however I still have to take into account, tax and shipping. Im sure I'll find someone desperate for cash or with no need for an ipad.

Tax yes, shipping is free. Oddly it ships from China via FedEx. That surprised me.
