Since you guys seem to be doing more straight pop mixes I'm gonna try producing this how I would do my own. Not sure if it'll work but I'll do a video while I mix it tonight. Should be interesting.

Thanx for the original mix!! Much appreciated!!!

The band has a MySpace Page :

http://www.myspace.com/pandathief

I only searched it out after I was finished my mix. From what I gather the mixes they have are only early rough studio mixes so the sky is wide open to paint your own impression..

Ok, I took a bazillion Tylenol's for my back pain and made it back upstairs.

I'm a bit of an moron... the other mixes I was doing were in a 44.1 project and I couldn't figure out why things sounded the way they did... until I looked at the files... duh! I had to start it over in an 88.2 song.

Here's my rough mix done on my small M-Audio AV-30's in my untreated video edit room using all PreSonus plugs. I'm not that good with distorted guitars, don't get rock clients around here.

256k MP3

Here's the Studio One song/mix file....

Just as a side note, I didn't use any compression at all on any of the vox, just clip levels and automation. Also, I don't do the volume war thing so you may have to turn the volume up.

Some great stuff guys! It's really nice to hear the contrasts between them.

Here's my latest version (soundcloud re-encodes the files to 128kbps, so I uploaded this new version at 320kbps instead of yesterdays 196kbps):
http://snd.sc/envMOn

Song file:
http://db.tt/sHZIytA

- Added automations for the vocals (trying to bring out the parts that sounded nicer to me and tame the others)
- Added group track automations for some guitars (same as with the vocals) <--- S1 really excels here!
- various tweaks here and there

Having worked a bit more on it this evening, I really miss some sort of folder grouping in S1...but it's manageable!

EDIT: Added project file

I updated the first post with the mixes from everyone as well as the project files for reference.

Great work everyone, it's really awesome to hear how the song changes depending on who's doing the mixing.

I'll get mine up tonight and anyone else who wants to participate is more than welcome to. I know there are a few other's out there who are working on mixing it so there's more to look forward to.

In the pursuit of knowledge I'm curious about Audiocave's mix the most I think. I think david's was great also, don't get me wrong, but I feel like Audiocave did something that made it more unique than the others. If you could outline a bit of your thoughts on the mix and maybe a few of the main problems or interesting points in particular.

Again, really good stuff. And I'm glad people are having fun with it.

Dunno. Once I actually got to hear it in a 88.2 song file it seemed that the tracks were pretty well done so there wasn't a lot to do. If you look at the project file, the bus groups, source tracks, I didn't use a lot of compression at all. I don't think I used any compression on the vox and I also don't think I even put a comp on the drum group, though I'd have to go back to look to be sure. I just kinda let it breath a little though I did use a limiter on the master.

No real problems to speak of beyond me just not having a lot of experience mixing rock, distorted guitars and similar.
