BTW, I really like the red color of your room!
The picture of the red wall with the acoustic insulation reminds me a lot of your avatar...

ricstudioc wrote:Well, this always takes a few pics - I'm spread out thru a few rooms in the house.

Long shot of "engineering" -

Little closer look -

Although S1 finally brought soft synths into practical use, I still loves me my hardware synths (there's an Alesis Ion not in a picture, also...)

My big whirly-baby - rarely used, but brings the VK7 into the "99% real" range

V-drums & SPD-S

Rear corner of that room - guitars and a DrumKat Turbo -

It's hard to get a good shot of the live room - these are some older pics - right side:

Left side (guitar rigs changed a lot - pictures of new setup to follow - ):

The facing wall, note the snake cable going up the left side. I've got a 24X8 bringing signal into engineering, and multiple monitor mixes back, as well as talkback -

The new guitar rig - GNX3, VG8ex, GR33, M13 -

Of course, you gotta control all that stuff - this is what became necessary......

And there's a third room in use for critical mic'ing purposes - vocals, acoustic gtr, etc. Don't have any good pics of that.

Own the home - not married, no kids - works for me!

Do you have any "playdates" open? I could definitely spend the day there and could get mommy to drop me off.
NICE!

(@Skip...) Hey, Texas ain't that far from Phoenix - if yer in the neighborhood......

Really, it all got started (this setup, I mean - I've been engineering for nigh on 40 years...) simply to record my band in rehearsals, and just kinda got out of control from there. Truth is I don't rent it out all that often - don't really need the money so I can pick and choose my clients/battles. Fact is - if I'm interested in what an artist is doing I'm just as likely to bring them in for free, I enjoy playing producer and seeing how far we can take a project.

Pros - lots of room, I can track a whole band live (16 ins to the system), multiple headphone mixes back, neighbors don't seem to mind, never any hurry - and there's a swimming pool in back, how's that for a break room?

Cons - well, the biggest single one is that the spaces aren't "designed" in any way, I'm working with what I got. (Hey, one of these days I'll want to sell the place - I don't see moving walls around as a realistic option...) But that's balanced by the fact that I KNOW these rooms, know exactly how they sound, so I know how to avoid problems and find the sweet spots. (Ever see pictures of the original Motown room? If that was "designed" in any way, I'm a monkey's uncle.)

So, lots of time to make it sound good despite the rather parallel environment, never any pressure - and a nice refreshing dip between takes. Not too bad......

Ditto... I'm the same way. I'm working with, I feel, three extraordinary talents right now by helping them put together a very nice, high quality demo for free. Like you, I really don't need the cash from it (AT LEAST FOR NOW!!! hahaha); I just enjoy seeing great talent at work. Also the more I work with great talent, the more I learn my setup. It's a win-win for both sides as I see it.

Here's my set up.

The Good: When we moved into our home 2 years ago, I finally got a dedicated space....
The Bad: It's really tiny...
The Ugly: It's an almost perfect 9' x 9' x 9' untreated cube....just peachy for monitoring...

In case anyone is interested, I posted a blog entry (link in sig line) about my experiences wiring this up. (I did a recent "cable clean" among other things.)

Cheers.

That's a beautifully concise setup! I guess if you have Studio Live, you don't need much else. Is that True Systems pre? I like how the SL glows in dark.

Thanks guys. Yes, that's a TRUE Systems P-Solo mic pre. Great transparent pre.

The walls have Auralex foam behind and to the sides. The breaker box for the house is on that back wall, that's why there is a section on the right side that was cut weird.

I notice the Capybara in your rack. Still in use? I had a ton of fun with Kyma while in school.
