Anything else these projects have in common? Maybe a plug-in?

Have you installed any software demos recently? (The kind that beep or dropout every so often...).

I'm not suggesting the audio is corrupted. My thought was if the songs messing up were recorded at 48000 sample rate and the project is 44100, then all tracks need converted on the fly. This could theoretically mess with some kind of audio buffer at regular intervals. It was just a theory...

I like Dijon2's question as well.

As for the plug-ins - Yes, many are similar, but the same are used in the songs that don't glitch.

As for the record rate - I have always stayed at 44.1. I will take gander though, just so I can cross that off the list.

And, Dijon's question was okay, but I REALLY like his mustard ! (hey . . . mustard + bacon . . . = ? Mmmmmm)

NEW "FuN fAcT -

I decided to open one of the "drop out" songs and export the mixdown.

When I play the mp3, the drop outs are "in" the mixdown.
(but, again, ONLY in the mp3 mixdown of the strange-acting songs. All other audio plays great- outside of StudioOne)

Just a minute . . . .

WHHHYYYYY . . . . MEEEEEE ??!!!???

Okay. I'm back.
So, mixes down the trouble too, huh?

You've tried so many things I can't remember but did you try creating a new song and importing the WAV files from one of the effected songs into the new song?

Hey badness, just for the hell of it, do you want to post the entire song folder to dropbox, and see if it does it on another system? Feel free to pm a link to me in an effort of privacy. I wouldn't be able to dive in until the evening, but id be happy to try. Just as long as you keep entertaining me in this thread that is.

Matthew - I might just do that. What have I to lose ! (I've already lost weight, hair, and my voice . . . . the dog better leave the studio)

Never did the drop-box thing, so I would need some coaching.
But, wouldn't you need the same VSTs, etc, for it to even sorta load?

Actually: since you've brought this great point up (again, showing that I am NOT firing on all brain-cylinders) - My wife has a copy of 2.6.2 on "her" little set-up (don't ask) and I will throw a song folder on a thumb drive and see what occurs - Still might send one your way anyhow, so maybe explain the drop procedure, just in case.

I am off to celebrate my youngest's 17th.
Beats me, how he could have a "party" during such a critically depressing time as this.

I'll be back between the 7 -8 PM (west coast) time. If I do, I'll learn how to do it and leave it there for you. Unless you Jersey Boys do the late night thing. In which case, we may find out late tonight.
The way things are going, Here's what I am betting:
~It will play just fine on YOUR PC
~You'll tell me that it's MY problem and I'm in hell
~you'll have to go to the ER, after hearing my unfinished song

Talk again soon.

********** THIS JUST IN ................... FROM THE NEWS DESK .........................************

I AM AN IDIOT -

Short version : I found the culprit. Problem solved. Nothing to see here . . . . move along.

_______________________________________________________________________________

Long version :

I began the process of eliminating all instances of VSTs, and then audio files, focusing on Third-Party products.
I decided to start a song and, at the point of the first drop-out, stop the playback and look at what was active at that exact second.
The first item I decided to look at, was an effect that was active on Several tracks at that point in the song. Opening the effect, I was greeted by an activation screen, stating that the effect was in “demo mode” and needed to be authorized. It is common that many VST effects AND instruments will be allowed to run for inspection, yet have a random (or, steady, in this case) drop-out or tone to prevent unauthorized use.

This particular ‘third-party’ effect, Izotope Alloy2, had not yet been RE-ACTIVATED following the Windows 8.1 upgrade, therefore it was running in ‘demo’ mode. Visiting the Izotope site, I found this:

For the first 10 days after installation, an unauthorized plug-in can run in Trial mode, which offers full functionality with no restrictions. After 10 days, the plug-in will continue to run in Demo mode. In Demo mode, the plug-in's output will mute briefly every 40 seconds. Aside from this periodic silence, there are no other limitations in Demo mode, and both Trial and Demo mode offer the same feature set as the authorized plug-in.

Although the statement says “40 seconds”, as the brief “mute” occurrence, after re-entering my authentication info, the drop-outs have stopped, and playback is flawless.

I “may” run into this same issue as I re-open work that was saved prior to the OS upgrade however, I am now confident that it will merely be the result of the need to re-activate a specific VST that had yet to be encountered POST upgrade.

After playing just a couple of the songs that were displaying the trouble, following my discovery this afternoon, I am confident (I HOPE) that all will be okay from this point on.

Thanks, . . . again - to everyone (except, those who just sat there, reading these posts and laughing at me and not helping)
