Monitors:
4 Yorkville YX12's - $215 each - $860
2 Peavey IPR1600's - $250 each - $500

$1360

Then not sure what you want to do for FOH.

looks like the OP has abandoned the discussion, and robare doesn't like powered speakers

For whats its worth, I own a pair of the Impulse by Peavey, they are a good cab and sound geat I have used them on many gigs! However sice you mentioned the B brand here I have another set of tops you should be looking at and they are the ALTO TRUESONIC Series cabs, They come in both 12 and 15 inch models are powered by class D amps, put out high volume and sound great ! at a price of about $ 349 they are in fact dare I say an amazingly huge value ! I saw a band awhile back using two 15s as mains and the clarity and powere were awesome! They also had the 12s as monitors, Im telling you I was impressed so much so I baught 4 of them and now use them as mains, you definatly need to check these out, I have no idea how they sell such a well made speaker at that price, they peak at 800 watts and thats enough power for any bar club gig ! I use them in the more rhowdy venues my band plays, and we beat em up all the time, tough as nails! just a thought. For the price you could get your mains and monitors at your price point ! im tellin ya, there really good cabs!

1+... at least from what I have heard. They did a feature on them in one of the latest issues of Live Sound International, and the writer liked them a lot as well.

i work at a major music retailer and we sell a BOATLOAD of those Alto speakers. amazing bang-for-the-buck. since we've been stocking them, no one buys anything in the "sub-$600" category (except for behringer, who makes incredible powered speakers).

that said - if you pull the trigger on Altos - be sure to spend the extra 15% on one of those stupid upgraded warranties. i've seen nearly a dozen die from normal wear and use. HF stops outputting, broken fan, etc.

just protect them, and you'll be really really happy! happy sounding!

Before any speaker is used in our setups we put them through several tests on certified equipment, which I am certified to operate, so that we can determine what kind of response we can expect at different volume levels. Also, to see how accurate the response from the speaker is. Speaking strictly from a statistical point of view based on measurements I have taken, the QSC K series beat the rest hands down. There is little variance from speaker to speaker unlike other major brands. I can drop the saved EQ settings on an aux, fill or main and be confident of the results. We have cycled out all the other stuff and have replaced them with K or KW series.

i like the Mackie HD series, sound nice, very HI-FI ish. My only thing with them is they have like a digital noise in when they are idling, not crazy loud, but enough if you were in a quiet room you would notice it.
I would go the QSC way if it was in the budget myself

Alto service? no idea. when we see bad speakers, we swap them out for a new one within 30 days. otherwise, we put customer in contact with service and it ends there. buy the warranty.

as for the mackie HD - they used to go bad all the time. we saw - literally - 50% of them go bad.

I have used my Alto's for several months now and not one issue at all, they have been left in a cold tailer, droped, beat up and not babied and they take the punishment well, they sound fantastic and need vey little if any EQ...As for the fan, yes they have a very small fan that is silent and barley runs at all, its a good idea in my opinion as it disapates heat better than heat sinks anyday and also cuts the weight way down, the fans ae not even noticeable. I would highy recoment these, I own the Peavey and I own a pair of JBL 515xt and the ALTO's in my opinion blow the JBLs away! there built like a tank, My local Guitar center cannot keep them in stock lol, 50 come in and I swear a day or two later there gone, very popular and for the price I can see why..Look the QSC are cetainly good cabs but man come one, the price is crazy and its not all about you get what you pay for, ya, I agree with that to a point, but then there is just robbery, and the price of those cabs is like getting robbed, Im sure the cost to make them is less than a third of the retail price if not less, marking them up to outrages prices because "QSC" is on the cab is crazy, I would bet anything the components in the Altos is evey bit the quality of the QSC, Again Im not saying they ae not a great speaker but IMO there just not worth that kind of money. I am realistic, I play Bars and clubs and outside in the summer, Im not about to put $3600 up on sticks for those type of venues, The Alto's suit us well and our band sounds great, we have never got a complaint that our vocals cant be heard and we are a loud band ! I mic everything so it all goes through them and they handle it fine, hey buy a set if you dont like them return them but my gut tells me you will be the one laughing all the way to the bank, there a fantastic bagain! Now having said that and aas the other post mentioned there are thousands of these being sold as fast as they can be made ! there are bound to be some returns and a few failures, it happens with qsc, and presonus also or any company, overall I have not found a bad review anywhere on the altos! why am I so passionate? because i feel great about what I consider a great buy and bagain!

amen - altos are amazing bang-for-your-buck.

but QSCs are definitely not robbery. that's like saying a mercedes is robbery because you can buy a vw for 1/3 the price.

Im not disagreing with you man, there great cabs, but whats in them that justifies that cost? thats what im asking? I wonder how much of the price is for the "QSC" Nameplate is all. And to bring up JBL again, The 515xt cabs are just aweful in my opinion, horrible, yet there priced high ! I would seriously take a pair of Behringers over those, mine ae sitting here and no wants wants to buy them, Justsayin, sometimes we pay alot for a name.
Now on the other hand lol, My studiolive is worth every penny I paid for it and then some!

BTW, How the Live X Cabs by EV, I have never heard those before or yet. Just saw them in the flesh the other day...One other point I have is Subs, I still dont feel a powered sub has been made yet to meet the demands of a live band such as mine, who plays alot of harder rock , I like bass that kicks patrons in the chest ! I havent heard a powerd sub yet that can do that? are there any?

Bill,
The JBL 515 you metioned is a lower level product not meant for pro use. You should go to the 6xx series for mid level products. Also, the 618xlf S in multiples would pound your audience.
