My feeling is that when Rap and Hip-hop came out, theory went right out the window.

Come on you guys There's actually quite a few very good hip hop artists out there. As well as producers.

- NERD / Neptunes
- Timbaland
- Mos Def
- KRS-One
- The Roots
- OutKast
- Talib Kweli
- Q-Tip
- DJ Shadow
- DJ Krush

Just search for these rappers / producers online and you'll see what I mean. And this has nothing to do with that mass production, autotune loaded R&B/Rap/Pop music that is pooring out these days that I personally, really, really don't like...

Well, just to be clear, I'm not talking quality, let alone taste. This is about theoretical musical knowlegde which - on average - is certainly less evolved with certain styles of music. Exception - in both directions - guaranteed, of course ...

I know that. I'm just pointing out that some of these artists and producers are actually very well aware of what they are doing. Especially the Neptunes and Timbaland have had their fair share of extremely big hits with the productions they made for others. The Roots is a hip hop band and they do play actual instruments... So... There ya go...

Record label stuff huh? Sounds interesting

Rob Lee and I got together and started spawning some ideas... And yes, that resulted in two initiatives. First of all a little sound design thingy called Section9 Sounds (section9sounds.com) and a record label called Section9 Records (section9records.com)... The first one is live, the second one soon will be as well.

But websites are up and running though.

Looks very nice, Motoko!

I'd like to get some Promos to play out!!! (I'm a DJ among other things

Congrats!

Yep. You have to separate the "front men" (singers who just sing or rap) from the actual "artists" and that's hard to do unless you're into a particular genre. For example, is Mick Jagger (or any given famous rock front dude) an actual talented musical artist or just a good front man / singer? No clue personally for most of them if they know a diminished chord from a potato.

Like most people had no clue that Tupac studied Jazz, Ballet, and poetry at a school for the arts. To most he was just a thug rapper guy with no musical or artistic training. You do have to look deeper sometimes.

Then there's William Hung... .. he's wearing a Berkley hoodie so I won't assume he's a dunce...
