one of the members of a band I work with has a 1 year old FSM. HE has given up trying to use the ticket system and phone calls as he keeps getting the run around and no clear answer.

I asked him to bring it to a gig so I could test it and here's what happens

2008 mac book pro, snow leopard, 1.2 universal control 100% fresh install - system will work and record fine for around 10-15 minutes. There is a feedback loop that starts to happens ( sounds like the buffer looping ) then the FW light starts flashing blue red - no audio and universal control crashes.

2010 Mac pro - identical to the above

so he brings the unit and I test it on my TI Toshiba laptop and my rack system - similar results the unit when you plug it back in will not work - you must reboot the computers and leave the unit for approx 1 hour so it will sync again. If you plug it back in straight away the blue light comes on the unit but it will never power on

This thing is only 6 weeks out of Warranty - Force firmware update does not work, have also tried 1.51 and 1.2 firmware flashes - 4 different computers 3 different firewire cables

Any ideas?

yeah I thought so. The bugger is that the unit was purchased in USA as he was working on cruise ships at the time and docked over there so he has no warranty fallback here in Australia. Not even sure if the unit is even worth sending in for repair - has anyone pulled on apart? are they just 1 main circuit board??

I think it is...maybe two.

You've got Rode on speed dial. See what they can do?
