Banks and patches in external hardware synthesisers can't be browsed and selected from within S1. This a major setback for MIDI users with hardware synths or workstations.

At present, to select such patches means inputting the raw MSB and LSB numbers via the Inspector after first referring to the synth or workstation's manual and doing arithmetic to work out the MSB and LSB values. This is very laborious indeed and not conducive to speedy working, e.g. in auditioning different patches to find the one most appropriate.

Sonar allows you to pre-define banks and patches as a once-off global configuration so all patches are available in any future project. Reaper doesn't have a once-off instrument definition setup but instead achieves this by allowing you to import definition text files to a midi track - in fact it allows you to import the Sonar file as it's only text.

Can we please have a global instrument definition facility.

Thanks,
John

I'm beginning to question whowe have here making music..LOL.. I'm surprised that no one is in your Amen corner on this feature. Now I personally only use vsts now however it would be nice to have that feature. The major DAW's have this built in so I wouldn't be surprised if we get this. I know Teddy Riley uses Roland gear and he needs that feature as well as he did in cubase and logic.

Yes, this would be very welcome. I'm starting to use more and more hardware synths and was actually wondering is this sort of feature was even possible. Great, let's hope it's gets implemented.

I vote for better physical instrument integration as a whole.

Looks like v2 does not have instrument definitions. That's a major disappointment.

I have picked that issue and few others related to MIDI hardware in my post:

Don't want to hijack this thread by any means but I think supporting requests related to hardware integration might cause getting some attention from the dev team eventually.

It would be nice to have a "Presonus Build Plug In" that let you specify the midi-out and the audio input of the hardware synth. Logic has that, and although it's rather simple it works okay, but more important it glues the MIDI track together with the Audio input channel so to speak. Keeps the track list simple.

YES! Add me to the list of people who want this. It's the only thing I miss from Sonar X1.

I really like Studio One but the lack of advanced support for external instruments is annoying.

Add instruments definitions as in Sonar and full sysex support and S1 will be my new perfect DAW.
