hdd space for recording

so i been lucky enuf to run this board for at least 50 good size gigs (5 bands or more), we want to get in to recording, but my big question is how much space am i going to need. is it 1 gig an hour, or more.... would i be able to use an external hdd via usb or is that to slow. or could i get a firwire hdd and plug that in to the sl 24?

I'd go with the biggest ext drive you get afford. Start with a 500GB and back up each session to a DVD.
