I'm wanting to know how to configure my network. I have an existing network that has a router and access to the Internet. I plan to use a 5 ghz router direct connected to the VSL computer. I want to hardwire connect the VSL computer to my existing network/Internet. This is in a church so there may be traffic on the Internet side and I want an independent router for VSL so we can hook up iPads and eventually iPhones to drive monitor mixes. I expect to pick up an iMac but may end up with a Windows 7 machine. I expect the answer to this configuration question would be the same. Specific brand and model router/access point suggestions would be great.

Thx. . .Bill

I've used a ton of different wireless routers before, and I can't tell you enough how much I recommend the Apple routers. They make 3 models, the Express, the Extreme, and Time Capsule. For what you're looking for, I'd get the extreme, it has 4 ethernet ports on the back so they can be used as inputs or outputs. They have an incredible range, way more than than the typical routers on the market, and they are super easy to set up and use with your iMac. As far as your computer, GET A MAC. You've heard it many times before, but if you're trusting you're VSL software and your mixer to be running from a computer, I'd suggest using a mac. You want that computer to be very reliable for recording, etc.

I'd get a central hub from apple which would be the "Extreme" first and then get a few "express" one's to help throw the signal everywhere. Super easy to set up and I have never had any problems with them! Apple FTW!

Thanks for the replies. The decision is made. I'll get the Extreme and an iMac and be done with it.

The original question stands. There is another router in the building where internet access comes from that is shared throughout the facility. It is on an open WiFi for anyone who wants access to the internet. If I hook the iMac to the Extreme which will be secured WiFi, that will give me control of VSL from an iPad. To get internet on the iMac, I will hook up between the router with internet and the router at the iMac. Will anyone on the open wireless router be able to get to the VSL for remote control? Obviously I don't want that.
