Try turning your firewall on but then manually allow both VSL and UC through the firewall. Check network stats on both the laptop and iPad to confirm they're both on the same i.p. range and subnet. I was having similar problems until I sorted out firewall issues. For some reason merely disabling the firewall didn't work for me on my Win7 machine. Also make sure you've set both the Linksys router and laptop wireless to only one and the same frequency transmission range and to the same encryption type. Most network issues where both devices see the router but not each other are because of a mis-match in one or more of these attributes.

Patrik here, from Sweden.

I have my SL 24.4.2 board in my studio. I just bought a Mac Pro.
I want to control the board with my new iPad and SL Remote...

This is what i tryed:

1)

Brought my Zyxel P320E routern from home, plugged my Mac Pro into ethernet slot 1.
Configured a wireless network from the Mac Pro.

Connected without problems with the iPad to that wireless network.
Turned auto-sleep off.

Downloaded the SL-Remote app.
Start the app, and i just see the Demo board.

2)
I read in here that Wireless Express worked like a charm for ppl, so bought one.
And now i dont have a clue how this think works... but i plugged my MacPro into the only ethernet slot on the Express.
Connected with iPad to that network...

waited til the Wifi was "hot"

Buuuut... no board was showing.

Everytime i see "PreSonus" i just wanna go home.

I can see its many more then me with the same problem?

COME ON Presonus.
Give us a hand.

Its EXPENSIVE stuff and i expect it to work as told!

to your question, I will need the following information to help you:

What version of the Universal Control driver are you using?

What StudioLive do you have?

What version of Mac OSX are you running?

Cheers,

Jason

But.... i got old drivers.

Man........

Well, i go to studio tomorrow with new drivers and try it out again...

Gosh i feel so stupid.

No worries

Remember that the Firmware is tied directly to the driver (the firmware update lives inside the driver). So, with the old drivers from the CD, you'll get the older firmware.

Here is the order of operations:

Install the new driver from our website (1.2 driver, not the Beta)

Perform the Firmware Update when asked.

Then try to connect your ipad again.

You should be in good shape after that

Cheers,

Jason

You dont plug the mac into the airport express ethernet port at all ><

Step 1) Download the airport configuration tool from the apple website

Step 2 ) Configure the Airport as if you have an ADSL modem plugged into it ( but you do not )

Step 3 ) connect with WIRELESS to the airport from your mac using the password you setup in step 2

Step 4 ) Disable any 3rd part firewalls on your mac - they are useless do not use them

Step 5 ) Connect the ipad to the Airport express network

Step 6 ) connect the StudioLive to the mac and run universal control

Step 7 ) Connect SL Remote

ITs not a presonus problem its a networking setup fault - if you look up on google how to setup a wireless network correctly using the airport it would save you lots of trouble

Both the Macbook and the iPad connected with NO problem. The only thing with the Airport Express is, there are no ports to directly connect a Cat5 cable to the wireless router to your Macbook/Laptop. Both Macbook & iPad are on the Wireless network. You have to run Airport Utility to get into the router. It is working perfectly.

This confirms that the iPad will use the 5GHz freq.

Hey Fazmanicg,
Good info here. I've been running the Mac Book Pro with the iPad SL Remote by simply using an adhoc network created with the MBP. I realize this is sketchy. We've been OK so far because we haven't had a lot of other wireless activity. Since we're thinking of adding some other wireless gear, I was planning to get an Airport Express. But I was bummed after I read your thread that there is no Ethernet connection between the MBP and the Airport Express. I just like the idea of a cabled connection when possible.
It seems that several folks are running it this way without any problems. Anyone care to chime in?

Also, I'm interested in hearing from anyone who is running multiple iPads for monitor mixing.
Thanks,
BJD

I use an ethernet connection.

Mac Mini
Linksys routher
iPad 1

It all works well. Love it in fact. I did the first gig, with the ipad at the mix desk, just getting used to the controls and how it all works together. The next gig I was out and about, all over the place. It was awesome!!! Only dropped out once, and was good after that.

One thing, is there any way to load a song onto the iPad, even "from the Guv'nor" or whatever. Just to demonstrate what the ipad can do, if I'm out and about without the whole mix setup???

do you mean load a scene? or load an mp3 song? I dont quite understand what you want to do

if you want to load a scene you have to use something like iteleport as the app does not currently support it ( and may never support it )

I mean just have a demo song that will play out of the iPad speakers, wheee you can mix the tracks on the iPad, alone, in demo mode. Without the wifi or SL, as a demo for friends, whatever...

Hi,

We have connected two iPads to our StudioLive 24 successfully. A third one showed up and it connects, but only presents the levels, etc for channels, auxes, etc and does not allow for remote control of anything.

Is there a limit to the number of iPads that can access one mixer?

Is something else going on with the particular iPad that is not able to control the mixer?

Thanks!

That thidr iPad may have a quasi-corruption. We've seen similar results before.

Try backing the whole thing up to iTunes and reinstalling it. That's been known to clear this up.

Hi all,

I consider my Google-Fu pretty strong, and I have been a PreSonus rep for 5 years - demoing StudioLives all over the Rocky Mountains. Traditionally, I have used a Linksys E3200 or 4200 router for my demo systems, but I needed something more compact for my rig, so I bought an Airport Express.

What I am NOT is a network guy (obviously) . . . I can't make this Airport Express connect to save my life. I did at one point get it to display green - after I ignored all the connection errors, but SL Remote would not connect - although, the networks show up. I did update the firmware of the AE.

Current status:
amber light 'Setup over WAN'
amber light Internet Connection
amber light No DNS Servers

I've got some great PreSonus swag to send to anyone who can talk me through this. Help?
