kurrykid wrote:Wow Johnny, this is excellent stuff. I just came across these videos a few days ago and have watched them all. I got into S1 with the holiday promotion and although I haven't done much yet, I certainly plan to. I have the Pro version arriving tomorrow so after I get that installed, I'll start actually using it. I've just been doing my "homework" up to this point.

One question I have is the footpedal that you are using to punch in...is that hooked up through your Faderport? Unfortunately I invested in the Alphatrack years ago but I've read that's not the best for S1. I would like to get a Faderport however, I've got to cap the spending at some point (anyone have a cheap Faderport for sale?).

Anyway thanks again...you are really inspiring me to get to work on this stuff.

Great! I'm glad you liked them. Yes, the foot pedal is hooked into the Faderport. I don't know much about the Alphatrack but I too have heard it don't work well with S1.

Glad you're inspired. Have fun!!

So, I guess this is dead.....

I really hope that you come out with some more videos eventually. I know that it is a lot of work, and you have other things to do, so I fully understand the delay....

Just anxious to see this thing come together. Leaving it here is like reading the beginning of a book without an ending......Or the start of a sneeze without the release. Or like pulling your finger and not......well, you get the picture.

themuzik has put out an amazing amount of effort and time to help others for no other reason than "he can". In a short amount of time, he popped about 15-16 vids in a few short weeks. More on this later....

The man is inspiring and he loves what he does! Even when life events, hard disk crashes and health issues confront him, he still is here on this Forum, willing to help or offer advice. He is currently trying to re-build videos made prior to the HD crash (not an easy or enjoyable task).

While he is re-grouping I suggest the following; listen to the first couple of vids he did for "The Song" and then skip to the last couple to compare what had been accomplished. I suspect that his prolific videos are testament to Studio One's workflow.

I have jokingly accused themuzik of being a "Cranky Dark Knight" on this Forum before (in jest), but this man has my RESPECT not only for sharing his joy in this medium but his intestinal fortitude!

This thread is not dead, it's only on "pause"...stay tuned.

Thanks, Johnny

I am assuming that you are responding to my comment….

I agree. I see, from re-reading my post, that it appears I was making a negative comment, but that was really not my intent. I am really enjoying the videos and also have great respect for anybody who has taken so much time, resource, and energy to do something that they love to do; write, record, and help others.

I just wanted to make sure my intentions were better stated. I did not mean that it was an abandoned cause; I merely wanted to express my excitement for the continuation…..Thanks for the bringing the poor expression to my attention….(my wife does it all the time; haha)

Oh yes. It's far from dead.

The hard drive crash (and the failed DVD backup) wiped me out of 7 videos, 4 of which were for this series. I was going to just jump to the vocal tracking and editing but the loss of my voice killed that.

I have about a year of therapy ahead of me now to try to regain my singing voice (they're suspecting the drug Crestor, which has a rare but possibly irreversible side-effect called Dysphonia, which is muscle damage to the vocal cords). I'm barely clinging to my speaking voice and I can't even yell at my kids anymore....lol

The loss of my voice has effected me more than I ever thought it would, feeling almost like I have lost half of who I am, as a person. I've mentioned it here and there on the forum but have never really explained the whole nightmare.

Hope no one minds too much. Talking about it feels good because sometimes I feel so isolated when even my speaking voice is merely, just a whisper.

But overall, I may be learning a whole new style of singing and I do plan on writing again in the future if at all possible. Also, keeping up with all you guys, answering what I can and making videos to help out has been a very good thing to help me remain positive and to keep from dwelling on the whole situation.

I guess, in a way, I hope maybe someone will read this, who has been through it, and may have another option to for me because as of now, my singing career (such as it was) is pretty much over.

Getting back to this video series, I have tracks from a few people here on the forum and adding them to the mix will be the next series of videos, as well as a midi drummer from Arizona adding his licks to it all. I may have to find a vocalist to do that part of it but they are hard to find. Then the final mixing, mastering and publishing will take place and that will conclude the series.

Like Skip said, The cranky Dark Night will return but thank you all for being patient and allowing me to blubber my troubles here like I have today.

Thanx guys!!

I didn't take it like that at all. Sorry for all the delays. Part of the delays are in my post above but as always, thanx to all for being so patient and thanx to Jonathon for not taking it down just yet!!

brentrains. I didn't take your post negatively. You, like many others, have been wondering what happened to "The Song". I just thought it was a good opportunity to give Johnny his due respect. The very fact that you are interested in his videos shows that you indeed give the man respect.

So, THANK YOU for inquiring about "The Song". You and I will both be waiting for the next vid! I hope Jonathan will keep this as a sticky as so many folks have hit this and it is a testament to the incredible workflow of PreSonus Studio One.

Ok, here we are again. Just to bring you all up to date......again..... I have been working on a S1 video series with a company and it's almost done.

So, there has been no progress unfortunately with the loos of my voice so the Vocal part of this video is on hold....

Unless.....

....there is someone able to do one so I can finish this series up. I have guitars and a killer piano from other forum members but all I need now is a vocal.

Any takers?

Hey Muzic, just wanted to chime in and say that I really feel for you. I don't know what I would do if I couldn't yell at my kids.

Aside from that, I just want to echo the sentiments of other forum members for a speedy recovery and continued great videos and inspiraton to this great forum!

Well, I just wanted to update you all on what's happening. I have seen the last Doctor that would have been able to help me recover my voice but I got the news that there is nothing they can do for me. My voice is all but gone. I have a very low level speaking voice, just enough for video work but it's very rough and painful for anything longer than 10 minutes or so.

The general consensus is that the Cholesterol drug Crestor is the culprit but I can't get any doctor to go on record pointing that out as the cause and one ENT (ear, nose and throat doctor) I saw actually said to me that it's most likely the cause but would not put it in writing for reasons of liability. Can you believe that?

I was absolutely crushed. All she could offer was to give me a recommendation for a speech therapist to help me with what I have left. I have been lost and depressed the last few days as I feel I have lost half of who I was. I can't even sing while I play guitar anymore because of the discomfort and it all comes out as a big whisper anyway.

I will still be doing videos and plugging away on Studio One but this video series is on hold till further notice.

I just wanted to say thank you all for supporting this thread like you have and thanx to Presonus for keeping it a "Sticky" for this long. I hope it has helped a great many people and maybe someday, by the grace of God, I will be able to finish it with a vocal section and be able to complete the mix.

Thanx to all of you for the support!!

Yeah,I agree...lol.

What I'm doing now is stopping all the meds and looking for more natural ways to control it. The first one is losing 25 lbs and no more Soda!!!

We shall see how that goes.
