FireStudio Mobile & FireStudio Project » Firestudio Project; What exactly does the volume knob do? » Go to message
"The volume on your external hardware is the volume for your monitoring. The knob itself is an attenuator. There is no amplification in the FSP."

Hahaha, the knob has little numbers on it written, negative 80 to positive 10, and that's why I could reasonably believe it to offer amplification. If it's purely an attenuator then why don't they just write 0 on the high end and negative 90 on the low end? Aww well. This is good to know though because I was wondering why my monitor output seemed so much quieter when it was set at "0" (in the middle). Relative to when the monitors were plugged out of 1 and 2 it was 10 decibels quieter.

So, I should just set the main volume knob to max and be done with it?

Hello,

In short, I'm confused, and want to know what exactly does the main volume knob (the one adjacent to the headphone jack) do in regards to amplification? If the volume knob is turned up, is the signal being made louder in software? Is it being made louder with an amp?

The reason I ask, and I haven't A and B tested this, but it appears that the signal is quieter when I plug into the main outputs versus output 1 and 2 and I don't know what to make of it.

So, lately, I've been using my firestudio project in windows as my main audio device, not just for recording.

The trouble is that I have the main L and R output connected to a hi-fi system that sounds great when I play vinyl or tape through it, really getting that 'it's so clear that it sounds like the instruments are there in the room with you' effect but when the hi-fi plays the output of my firestudio project, I get a feeling like the music is distant or muffled, so I don't think it's the speakers or the hi-fi's amp.

When I first got this hi-fi system I plugged it into my sound blaster card and I also had this same issue but it cleared up so long as I set the windows volume no lower than 70% because it seems like any lower than that and Windows starts to cut some of the quieter parts of the signal.

The trouble is that with the audio interface there's the main volume knob, which I'm not sure what exactly it does (does it control an amplifier?) and there's also Universal Control, in which I have the main output set all the way up, but I'm not sure if it ideally should be. So I have two more variables and maybe other things I don't know about that I'm not quite sure how I'm supposed to set?

So, what are the usual things I should be looking at when I am connecting an audio interface to a classic hi-fi system?

(background information, until I acquired this system, I've only been using headphones with the firestudio project.)

If I understand it correctly, Tone Generator doesn't exist in V1, well no matter, fortunately I happened to have a different program that can do.

Does Studio one have a White Noise generator?

Studio One FAQ » Max Timeline Zoom makes reveals the project to be too long, How do I shorten? » Go to message
Hello,
I set a project at about 10 minutes long but then I brought in a recording that was 1 hour long (with the intention to cut nearly all of it) and now whenever I max out the timeline zoom it stretches out the whole project to be the length of the recording I brought in. I looked around in the manual and the forum for how to readjust the upper limit of the timeline zoom but I wasn't able to find anything that directly addressed this issue. So, how do I make the timeline zoom's upper limit be just ten minutes? I appreciate any help, thank you.

By the way, I am using Presonus Studio One V.1 Artist.

well, I checked just now and I don't smell or hear anything. I think I may have smelled something after it happened but that could be subjective so I'm not really sure about that.

Does anyone know how long the whole send it to presonus and wait for them to send it back procedure take? I don't quite need it today or even next week but if it's more than two weeks and it would cost less than 50 dollars to fix locally I think I might consider doing that instead. Any opinions?

Hi, so earlier today I was listening to something on my headphones and then suddenly the sound went out. I looked at the firestudio project and I saw that the light was still on so I turned off the unit and then I tried to turn it on again but it did not turn on at at all!

I checked the cable and the fuse but those all appeared to be fine, it's just now the light doesn't turn on and the switch doesn't appear to do anything at all.

I checked that page and there was some mention of a power supply circuit, does anyone know anything about it? I've already made a support request (I registered the product and bought it less than a year ago, so I hope I'm still fine on the warranty) and I hope I will be helped that way but if no one will help me then does anyone know what it takes to open up this unit and fix that issue myself?

Any help is greatly appreciated.
