16.4.2AI » PEQ Spectrograph - is it pre or post EQ/dynamics? » Go to message
OK, thanks I'll double check. I was pretty sure I wasn't seeing changes to EQ and gate reflected in the spectrograph overlaid on the PEQ's but maybe I was out to lunch!

Cheers!

And now that I notice it, if you engage the gate does anyone have the SL Remote Ai compressor metering mirror the gate metering? If the gate is off the compressor metering in SL Remote Ai is fine, just when you switch on the gate the metering for compressor looks like the gate for some reason...

One more thing about SL Remote Ai, it's looking like you can only have the metering for each channel (next to the fader) be on input mode. Switching to output mode or GR mode in VSL Ai or on the mixer seems to not change anything in SL Remote Ai.

Off topic, but just things I'm noticing....

Hi folks,

I can usually find the answer to a question I have by just reading other people's posts, but this one I'm scratching my head about. Sorry if it's been answered in another post, but it doesn't seem to be listed as a problem with the firmware release....

Here is my issue. When I'm checking out a channel's fat channel using the spectrograph it doesn't seem to register changes I make in EQ, gate, high pass, etc. It is as if the spectrograph is just telling me what is coming into the channel, not what is leaving it. Maybe there's a setting somewhere I don't know about? Anyone else seeing this?

Mixer: 16.4.2 Ai
Firmware: 1.0.5203
UC/VSL: 1.0.2.24818
Compter: MacBook Pro running Mavericks

Thanks in advance!

Sorry to hear of your woes......if it helps a tiny bit I think I read somewhere that you're supposed to be able to duplicate the fat channel settings in StudioOne so you could potentially bounce your tracks through there.....I never do that, instead opting to add EQ, compression, etc to recordings mixing "in the box". (meaning my macbook)

About the fans....I hadn't heard about these until I read your post. I have a classic 16.4.2 and am thinking of switching to AI for the same reasons you did, also because I'll have fully parametric EQ's and better control of limiters on the 16 channel AI. Do you (or anyone lurking know) if the 16 channel AI StudioLive has the same loud fans?

I'm using FreeStyler on VMWare as someone else posted, using the DMXKing UltraDMXPro USB dongle. I chose that dongle because is has a small memory, so if your program quits it will still put out light. That being said , the moment you program fires up again it will send out sharer default values you have set.....at least it's better than darkness until you get the program running again!

FreeStyler will let you control it with CoreMidi so TouchOSC will work over wifi. Also, you can hook up a (dare I use the word) Behringer BCF2000 as a midi controller, either hooked up to your computer via USB or through your phone using iMidiRig. (So the controller becomes wireless). Personally I like having the computer and BCF2000 together, avoids all those mouse clicks for manual stuff. Phone is a great controller (using TouchOSC) in a pinch.

I have a 1st gen StudioLive, and I have a feeling we're not getting any more firmware upgrades. My Macbook Pro would have to be upgraded from SnowLeopard to make such an update anyways, and looks like my 1st gen iPad won't be update through the app store.

Anyone out there have experience jailbreaking 1st gen iPad? Maybe if Presonus wants to update the 1st gen app, they can be convinced to give it to us through the jailbreak store (Cydia)?

Maybe a jailbreak is going to be the answer?

Thanks - I'll give it a try!
StudioLive General Discussion » Metering Select Function on SL-Remote » Go to message
I second that motion!

Currently the only remote way to change that setting is using something like iTeleport. So you have to switch apps, often log into the computer (takes time) just to switch that setting. Meanwhile you can't do any mixing, totally handcuffed.

Alternatively I would take gain reduction metering in the fat channel view but we've been told it's not possible due to latency (although not impossible when viewing all channels as long as GR setting has been engaged....hmmm....)
StudioLive General Discussion » Anyone know how to route StudioLive audio into VMWare running on a MacBook Pro? » Go to message
OK I'll give that a try, see what happens. I've found I can use Soundflower to do some routing as well, haven't had the mixer hooked up so I can play with that. I think I'll have trouble routing to both Windows and MacOS but I'll keep you posted.

Yes, I'm using the native Mac soundcard.

Thanks for your help!
StudioLive General Discussion » Anyone know how to route StudioLive audio into VMWare running on a MacBook Pro? » Go to message
Hi thanks for responding!

Well, I was hoping to just pass two-track audio through to Windows from Mac OS, not to install UC and run it in Windows, unless I'm missing something.... Everything is working from the Mac side, I run UC and Capture routinely to control and record shows so I know there is audio streaming from the mixer into the MacBook via firewire. Just want to have VMWare Fusion pass that audio along to Windows as well.

I'm assuming the Mac sound card is the source of this audio? I'm pretty clueless about how things are routed in a MacBook and PC. Though I have an Engineering degree I just haven't put the time into fully understanding the architecture let alone the operating systems.

In VMWare Fusion under menu "Virtual Machine/Settings/Sound Card" it shows the sound card as being on. Does that mean the audio from the Mac side is being passed to Windows? Is there a tool to see that?

In Windows I tried under the Start menu "Start/Control Panel/Hardware and Sound/Sound/Recording" but there is just an option for an add-on microphone to be plugged into the jack. i might settle for the on-board microphone but that doesn't seem to be working either.

Maybe I need a piece of third party software? Like RTPMidi does for midi, to act as some kind of audio bridge (for audio, just using that midi program as an example)

There must be someone out there who runs DMX software in VMWare that has figured out how to pass audio to, so they can trigger their lights? I'd appreciate the help!
StudioLive General Discussion » Anyone know how to route StudioLive audio into VMWare running on a MacBook Pro? » Go to message
Hi all,

I've been really struggling with this: I'm trying to get my DMX lighting software to trigger off music coming from the board, either mains mix or even better a selected channel or aux mix.

I have lighting software Freestyler running in Windows 7 through VMWare on my MacBook Pro (Snow Leopard OS). Freestyler doesn't really run natively on Mac's, so you have to run them in Windows. I have a 16.4.2 first gen mixer. What I can't seem to figure out is how to pass the audio coming from the StudioLive through the firewire connection on the MacBook into Freestyler. I figure there is something I have to do with a virtual sound card or something like that. Problem is I don't even know how to check if there is even a signal being seen by VMWare....don't know where to start really.

Any help from a VMWare user (or other knowledgeable people) would be greatly appreciated!

Congrats! I have a pair of those 328's - a huge step up from what I had before so I'm pleased. Are you planning to run subs with them? I find they're not full range enough to go without subs even for quiet gigs with bass. They definitely roll off earlier than my old speakers. I have a single QSC KSub which does the job for me, but would like another for louder gigs, better coherence having a sub for each top.

You were looking for reviews. My impression of them is they sound great loud as well as quiet. No issues for me pushing them - helped out some buddies last night who have a rockabilly band, playing in a bar, wanted it loud, and they sounded great! Measurement mic with 16.4.2 SMAART show a very flat response up close, no hype in the 5k region, which is taking some getting used to since my old speakers were very hyped there. Also, I find I don't have to dial out something like 1-2k from everything to make my ears not hurt, which is a good sign I think. Not too scientific but my 2 cents....

Yes, the options are very nice to have.

To add to my last post I tried using my iPhone with an iRig Midi connected to my BCF2000 on the weekend to see if I could get rid of the DMX cabling to my my lighting rig at the stage and it works.....though there is a small amount of latency. So 100+ feet of DMX cable to a lighting position can also be avoided if you really need to, while having an actual midi controller at your fingertips... the DMX lighting software running off the same computer used for sound.

Yes! Equinox is on Thursday! I could have used those delays and especially notch filters at a bluegrass concert on the weekend....that large diaphragm mic they dance around is tough to ring out, especially in a big hall....

Does anyone who is listening have an ETA on the wireless control software, and by extension the delays and EQ's?
