StudioLive General Discussion » Had to come up with a temporary workaround today . . . » Go to message
Did a gig today with my first generation Studiolive 16.4.2 and recently acquired first generation iPad.
I forgot my cat5 cable to connect the laptop to the router, and couldn't get the laptop to connect via WiFi.

So I decided to try and use my phones mobile hotspot as a wireless router stand in. It worked!

Just thought I'd share. Anyone else done this?

I was afraid I would have glitches because I remember being warned about turning off Wi-Fi when using the Studio live.

Does that sounds right?

I only did it for a little while until my wife tracked down a cat5 cable.

I finally picked up a 1st Gen iPad. Are you telling me it will soon be useless? Or that I just won't be able to get updates to the app?

If updates will no longer be available, will I at least still be able to download the older version of the app, if for some reason I have to wipe the iPad?

Thanks Bob for shining some light on this after so long. I am one of those who is still waiting patiently (mostly) for Android implementation.

I have already decided to purchase a used ipad so that I can move forward and use my StudioLive to it's full potential. Even if I were to wait it out, I'm expecting any future Android app would work only with the newer AI boards.

I do wonder though how this young German kid was able to create an App for the B@hr!ng3r X32 for Android with mostly positive reviews:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.davidgiga1993.mixingstation

I assume he doesn't have a large development budget. I don't think he even has the sanction of B@hr!ng3r to create this, and yet he did.

And it works.

In fact, it works great. Just read the reviews.

Now everything I have read and been told says this should not have been possible. After all, there are so many devices to test. And so many different versions of Android. And yada-yada-yada.

How was this possible!

I must know.

Yes!
The developer who created an X32 (for the Behringer X32) app for Android might actually be willing to create an Android version IF the network protocols could be made available.

His Android app for the X32 has almost all good reviews, and it is still in Beta, although available for download.

How many folks here would be willing to pay for an Android app for the Studiolive?

If someone from Presonus would PM me on this it would make my day.

I use a pretty much identical setup in my studio. I have the StudioLive 16.4.2. I use the main LR mix to feed the main ins of the Behri, and whichever Auxes to feed the individual channels. All my I/O goes through a patch bay right above the Headphone Amp.

I made my own patch cables out of some 3' balanced patch cords I had. The only downside is unbalancing the aux makes it a bit noisier.

Good stuff!

Thanks for changing it after all.

What a funny idea . . . . .

Another vote here for the ATH-M50's for comfort, sound quality and durability.

I think the isolation's pretty good too.

Just saw the live demo here at NAMM. Very cool. Too bad I don't have an iPhone yet.

Yet.
16.4.2 » Headphone Jack Relocation » Go to message
I might be interested in this mod, but I was thinking instead of removing the BNC connector for the light (top right corner) and relocating the headphone jack there. While you had it open, did you notice if this would be feasible?

I would be fine without that light, the board is pretty bright on it's own!

Also, I'm thinking instead of relocating it, I would just run a wire parallel off the jack in place to make a second headphone output location.

I don't know. I can't remember the name of this group or if it has an acronym, and I can't find the press release in my mail. I delete those things after a while.

The "AVnu Alliance" if I'm not mistaken. The AVB standard will be quite a revolution when it's ready for prime time.

PreSonus is an active member of a developer's alliance that's looking into alternate I/O connections that will work very much like computer networking but you won't see any of that at NAMM this year. They're always working on the StudioLive remote, so I suspect that there will be an improvement or two that you might find better depending on what "better" means to you. For me, better would be simpler. For you it might mean something different.

Are you talking about AVB?

Also I was talking about Android as far as remote control goes. I realize the huge range of hardware makes it more difficult to develop, as well as it being a different environment. But I was thinking you could pick the top 3 or 4 Android tablets and get something going for those. (this would include the Motorola Xoom of course!) Anything smaller than a 10' screen would be a pain to work on anyway.

I'll be at NAMM on the 19th!

Maybe I'll post an update from the show as to what I see.

16.4.2 » Aux out Balanced via Snake to Unbalanced Headphone Amp » Go to message
I just had a thought for you. I've personally run my headphone amp (Behringer HA4700) OUTPUTS through the balanced TRS on my snake with no noticeable problems.

Have you considered putting the headphone amp at the"FOH" end of your signal chain and plugging the headphones right into the snake's TRS outputs?

You may need an adaptor or four, but it should work and solve your issues.

Worth a shot before spending more moolah.

If it's giving you that much trouble, you could try a device like this one, and it would match your levels too.

When you are connecting a balanced output to an unbalanced input, you don't want to connect pin 3 to ground.

When connecting an unbalanced output to a balanced input, then you would jumper pin 3 to 1.
