I find the SRH440's an excellent option and good value for money. They are a lot more predictable with their smoother freq response. The 280's have slightly better isolation and about a 10dB boost in the low end. This is why a lot of DJ's love them. If you put the aftermarket 840 pads on the 440's, I find you get better low end extension and isolation. Plus they are comfier.
As far as monitors: Dynaudio BM5a mk2. Or second hand BM6a mk1- the mk2 aren't as good.
If you can afford em (one day, one day....) Event Opals. wow!

bt I think I remember reading something in a thread here about the HP60 changing specs at some pint - I've been wrong before, but it would explain people having different results for the same scenario. SG
Yeah I was about to post similar thing. Old thread had people getting different results when using 1642 aux's to HP60's external stereo in's. Methinks HP60 over few years of production has had some different spec's / versions without official notification.
I think the combined use of the 1642 and HP60 was covered a little in the old forum. One issue covered was how to connect the 1642's aux outs to the HP60's individual channel specific "stereo external in" (more me feature). The problem was that the 1642 aux out is a typical balanced mono signal on a TRS, whereas the HP60's TRS external in is expecting a stereo signal. So (correct me if i'm wrong), I think that means you would only get your aux signal in the left ear. If you press the mono button on the HP60 it sums the tip and ring signal together. Thats fine if it's being fed a stereo signal as left and right will be summed to the same signal in both ears. But (and this is where the 1642 comes in), If the HP60 is being fed a balanced mono signal, summing the +ve Tip with the -'ve Ring results in phasing and cancellations.
"PreSonus StudioLive 16.4.2 Users Get Free Graphic EQs and More!
.
StudioLive-series digital mixers just keep getting better as PreSonus adds new features in free firmware updates. It's update time again for StudioLive 16.4.2 users, and we've laid the features on thick, like butter on cornbread!
In a previous update, we gave the StudioLive 16.4.2 a stereo graphic. Now we've added six mono graphic EQs dedicated to the mixer's six aux sends - perfect for custom monitor or in-ear mixes. We also added variable (2 to 500 ms) output delay for each of the StudioLive 16.4.2's four Subgroups so you can synchronize signals sent to remote speakers. If your sanctuary is large or odd-sized, you're going to love this!
We were on a roll, so we added Aux Flip Mode. Each Aux on the StudioLive 16.4.2 now has sends from Aux inputs A and B, the FXA and FXB returns, the Tape In, and the main FireWire return from the computer. To access Aux Flip Mode, you simply press the Aux Mix buttons twice - it can't get much easier. You can even update your StudioLive 16.4.2 Fat Channel with a new Aux Flip Mode overlay sticker, available for a nominal shipping and handling charge from the PreSonus Web store and international distributors.
The new update is bundled with the PreSonus Universal Control 1.5 control-panel software update, which also adds enhancements to Virtual StudioLive.
Get it all in a free download from the Technical Support section of the PreSonus Web site at www.presonus.com"
I work out my rental fees as 2% of the RRP (that stands for recommended retail price in Australia) cost to replace the equipment. So if i bring in a system that costs $10, 000 then i charge $200 a week for a rig that gets used friday and saturday. So a weekly rental fee will have the system paid for within a year. I've seen others charge around 4%. Some dudes will still charge $200+ on lower quality/costing old gear freshly painted. Venue know no difference as it still makes noise and half the time the old stuff looks bigger!! = value for money.
Thats where you have to sell key points in your service such as:
My gear is quality, reliable, safe, to a standard of performance your musical acts and audience expect.
Having my gear properly setup gives consistent audio quality.
It also reduces the chances of lower quality, unsafe rental rigs being loaded in and out all the time causing damage to the venue and disruptions to trading.
Make it clear (contract) as to what your insurance covers and what they have to cover eg damage due to misuse, theft, fire , flooding.
Increase input count by linking SL up with other fire studio pre options or even another SL. If sub mixing, possibly look at the Allen & Heath ZED10 of ZED10fx. 4 mic/line inputs, 2 with Class A FET high impedance inputs, two stereo inputs, and the desk's outputs feature DI level switching for sub mixing.

Reading this got me a bit worried that your engineers are making presumptions about the SL24. This console IS NOT a midi controller, and DOES NOT have motorised faders.
