AudioBox VSL 1818 » This is a bit offbase but » Go to message
I found out that for an ipad to output 24/96, like from Amplifac to play flac on iPad, and to do that you need an USB dac and I'm curious if the presonus could do this. It's not it's main purpose in life and I didn't buy it for this (I bought the 1818 for Studio One 2, Auria, and maybe Logic Pro) but if it would work it would save me the hassle of buying a dac.

That's kontact. I hate autocorrect. Don't you?

I posted about this awhile back but I'm coming at it from a different angle hopefully. I have a PC that coughs using latency monitor if I boot a web browser during the test. Not likely yo happen when actually using studio one for sure. Ok, the question: I'm going to be using an 1818VSL with studio one, if only to hook up monitors to it. Would that potentially relieve some of the burden off the CPU? I'm likely to be ordering knot act to run along side studio one, maybe get the fishman triple play. That might mean I need to upgrade the CPU, to run everything at once. Or it might not. Is using the 1818 enough to put off buying a new computer? Finances are tighter than I thought and they were tight then.

Thanks,

Howell

I've seen info on Folder Tracks and perhaps I'm just confused but shouldn't I be able to just select tracks, by right clicking, and assign them to a buss?

Omnisphere appears to, at least according to the YouTube video I watched, it's 50GB in size. I don't think they used a specific orchestra though.

I agree! I'm not really into techno/hip hop music. Orchestral would really help me out!

How many orchestral virtual instruments are included in S1 2.5.2 Pro? I'm going to be doing an orchestral piece. Hip hop like samples have no place in it. Just an example. I need real sounding orchestral samples. If I need to buy that, I need the least expensive options available. Money is tight so I can't spend what I don't have. LOL.

Very Intersting!

Theoretically, a 3.0 release will ship. How much might an upgrade cost based on previous releases?
Updating to 2.5.2 today

FYI, my CPU is an Intel E6700" not sure if thats a lot for virtual instruments.

Ok, in the effort to get rid of the intel raid driver I dont need, I found a koutech hard disc controller which I can use with a ssd as to disable iastor which is the main culprit. In order to disable iastor without hosing windows, which I don't want to do, I need to get an inexpensive controller card and for access speed, a ssd. Theoretically, that should get me into a configuration that will work without buying a new computer.

I'm running S1 2.5 in a default config. I do plan to rely heavily on the virtual instruments and Melodyne if that helps.

That's the thing. I'm not running raid. There's a single HD. Yet the matrix driver was installed. I think without that and following the advice here, I may be able to use what I have without having to buy a Mac mini. Getting SSD's for the PC certainly couldn't hurt as they'll be a lot faster. I'll have to run Latency Mon with the 1818 hooked up to see if I still get the error in Latency Mon. Don't think anyone will be saying use Realtek! LOL

Thanks for the replies! I did not have a hardware interface plugged in at the time I did the test. I have a 1818VSL. As for why I opened a web browser during the test, I was trying anything I could think of that might trip latency monitor up! The PC has internal audio....Realtek...blech....they are the networking too although it doesn't have internal wifi. I wonder if a SSD Drive might help. The GPU is a bit old too, a 3870 although that shouldn't be an issue, should it? The intel storage driver should use less of the CPU IMO. 50% is too much, but I do have the current version.

I have a dell inspection 560 running win7 x64 on an intel E6700 with 8 GB of ram. I thought that this config wouldn't have issues with real time audio. Latency Mon thinks differently. The intel matrix storage driver uses almost half the CPU at times. It is in fact so easy t fail latency mon that all I need to do is open 4 blank web pages. That's it. My question is what do I need to upgrade to pass latency mon? A Mac mini can do it. At least with the fusion drive. Maybe if I get an outboard network card, sound card and ssd drives, it might pass. Any suggestions are welcome. I don't think the graphics card is a factor.
