“Z “Monitoring or Zero Latency is supported as of Studio One 2.6 on the following interfaces:
Hardware Interfaces
• FireStudio Mobile, Project
• AudioBox 22VSL, 44VSL, 1818VSL
• Any 3rd party ASIO 2.0 DM interface device
So...I'm wondering if the Apogee Duet 2 is such a "3rd party ASIO 2.0 DM interface device" in the third bullet.
Thanks for the reply. I thought I had read somewhere about having to merge/aggregate the two devices in the sound device options within Windows so that Studio One could "see" both USB devices. Maybe because they aren't technically both audio interfaces (one is data) that is irrelevant. Thanks!
Can I connect a MIDI keyboard (Yamaha PSR E343, which only has a USB MIDI) to a PC and still use a 22VSL for vocal...and record them at the same time? Or do I need some sort of adapter to connect the USB to the old standard MIDI connection on the VSL?
I'm just not sure if the computer sees it as "one or the other" or they can coexist happily. Thanks!
To clarify...I'm asking on behalf of a friend who has a PC, 22VSL and the keyboard mentioned above.
As long as you have enough outputs on your mixer, yes. You can run them into the line inputs on channels 1 through 8. They just happened to be called returns on channels 1 and 2. Work the same way though.
Im trying to export mixdown in mp3 form but the artist version wont let me. I usually use media.io but its been acting up and not working. So I tried to upgrade from artist to pro(the free trial) but its not letting me.
The red light is frustrating, to be sure. Can your Mac "see" the FS Project? Check System Preferences > Sound to see if it's listed under the Input and Output tabs. If not--or even if it can--have you restarted your Mac? Also, whenever I've had issues with the Universal Control driver, I seem to have the best luck by first getting rid of the any trace of it. This lengthy set of instructions has helped me in the past:
The instructions are a bit date, but should still be relevant. Follow the steps to a 'T,' reboot, then try installing the latest UC driver. Post screen shots of anything that might help diagnose further.
Good point! But how then does the input volume knob affect the signal of the insert? If there is no signal coming into the preamp (no cable connected on the front...ONLY to the return), how is the volume of the return signal affected by the input knob, which I assume (perhaps incorrectly) is directly related/connected to the preamp?
I'm not challenging you...I actually don't know! Just saying it isn't as logical to me as it might be to you. I'm guessing it's not logical or obvious to the original poster either. This is why we ask questions. This one boggles me!
I would assume so, but don't want to steer you incorrectly. The FireStudio Project doesn't have the +4dbu noted, but that 6th detent does align perfectly with the center of the word "LINE" and the "I" in "MIC". (I guess I can stop counting detents).
Hopefully someone from Presonus can confirm this. Even if it's the correct gainstaging, it still seems like it passes through the preamp. Maybe it makes no difference since the XMAX preamps are supposedly clean/flat/colorless (whatever you want to call them). And maybe at unity they're essentially transparent.
I sort of miss my FireStudio Mobile, which had line level inputs on the back of the unit that definitely didn't have input knobs or preamps.
Bit of a let down, I'm sure. If you need a good place for cheap, quality cables, check out Monoprice. I've purchased countless cables from them and have never been let down:
If your Mac has a FireWire port, you just need the right cable. A FireWire400-to-FireWire800 cable should do it. If it has a Thunderbolt port, there is an adapter for that.
1-2 are certainly different from 3-8, but I think mainly in impedance. I don't believe any of them bypass the XMAX preamps completely. If they did, the input knob wouldn't affect them. And they do. On channels 1-8. However, I heard once (in a Presonus Live event) that you can find unity gain on channels 3-8 by putting the input knob at 12 o'clock and then turning counter-clockwise 6 detents. Whether or not the XMAX preamps still affect the sound is unclear to me, but at least you won't be boosting or attenuating the sound.
Returns 1-2 on the back are essentially the same as 3-8 on the front. I assumed they bypassed the preamps (as seem to be indicated in the manual), but they, too, seem to be affected by the input knob. I would totally try this...if I had a separate, awesome preamp to use!
