Thanks Rodney, very helpful. Is this a much better, more reliable and easier hookup than say using an adhoc network? I really had a lot of trouble with that.

Using an ad hoc network should only be used in an emergency. A proper router is the way to go whenever possible.

Rodney, your directions were very clear but will this system just work and you don't have to set up some kind of network with your laptop? It took me and two more guys 5 days to get my Ipad set up using the ad hoc network and still has glitches like no sound on board and channels 15 and 16 you can't get to because they move as soon as you touch them, I'm not that computer savy but your way sounds much more reliable and easier to set up. Will it work with Windows or only Mac? Thanks very much for your info.---Henry

It's exactly the same on Windows and MacOS, and I've used that exact setup practically every day for the past month without any glitches or problems.

Tried you hookup last night and it worked perfectly and really easy and fast to connect. I did find that the 5G has range limitations and losses contact qucicker than the 2.4. Wonderful solution, thanks---Henry

Yesterday evening I did a test while rehearsing with my band: I used an ad-hoc network and I used two 2.4 Ghz divices. One for in-ears an one for playing bass wireless. So I used my MacBook Pro, my iPad, and two Jangus Music Wi Audiostreams. We played for about three hours, and no drop-outs or other interference in the audio. I was very curious if this set-up would create problems because of the use of other 2.4 Ghz devices, but it worked out very well. On a gig, however, I will certainly take my Airport Express with me to prevent problems.

Well, if you already have a Macbook Pro, why do you need the Airport Express?
On my MacBook i just create a network wherever i am (also way out in the country, on stages that has no DSL), and the iPad connects to that and works just fine, both on stage and in the FOH position...

Always remember that problems never occur when you rehearse, but always at the venue. Then the circumstances are different from what you are used to. Maybe a lot of wifi-traffic in the neigbourhood or other things interfering with an ad-hoc network. So that is why I take the Airport Express with me. Always be prepared.

Well I have tried the adhoc, two different routers that I had laying around, one linksys and one netgear. Each one got a little better but I was still not happy with distance or dropouts. So I ordered a refirbished Airport Extreme from the Best Buy web site (about 60 dollars cheaper for referb). Can get almost twice the distance and no more drop outs.

Rodney: Thanks for the video. I just bought my Ipad the past week and I have ordered my 5 GHz router this week. I am looking forward to using them. It should be simple to setup and connect according to your directions!

Questions:
1. I see in the video that you left all the faders in the down position. Is this the best position to leave the faders when using the Ipad?

2. I would imagine that setting the gains on the mixer would be the 1st step in the process of mixing. However, if you are using the Ipad to control the laptop which is connected to the mixer, If I adjust anything on the mixer such as gain settings for any given channel how does that affect the board, connection and the like? Any problems?

3, Anyone have any "TIPS, TRICKS, and WARNINGS" for us new to the SL Remote? I think I will start a new thread.

you cannot adjust gain, FX ( apart from sub routed ) or Aux output level from the ipad, know when your monitors will feed back and do not set them above this level if you are going to use the ipad all night as you cannot simply turn the wedge down with the knob
