I like the mix. When I first heard the song via LMikes mix I wanted to hear those tasty Strat licks more. You improved on that.
I like how you emphasized the guitar lick on the 2nd but my ears still want to wants to hear it driving a bit more ( distortion/drums)

Good Job.

I like it also. His mix has more "balls".

Listening to the various mixes I'm wondering (not having listened to mine elsewhere) if the bass response where I am on this table is way off. The other mixes all have a good bit more bass.

If you are talking about mine (which I find unlikely) I used very light processing. Everything is very minimalist since I don't really have experience with this sort of thing. I used markstudio bass on the bass just to even it out a bit.

Decided to join in and give this a shot sounds like a great song to practice with. I will put a mix up tonight . I always like

how everyone interprets a song a little different. That is what makes music so enjoyable to create and mix . (at least for me.)

wow everyone says thattheir system was pushed to the limit! mine barely moved to 1/4 on the little performance display bar... but i didn't put a bazillion plug ins on every single track... I went for simple clean
an EQ on each track 2 delays and 2 reverbs on aux sends a few limiters and compressors here and there where needed..., these are well recorded tracks and sound good so they only need a bit of sweetening and control... it's more in the subtleties of the mix not in the processing of the tracks... Less Is More!

Hi all, first post here

I've been reading along in this thread, nice nice nice !

Anyway, I've been dabbling a bit with this song also and I proudly present:

https://soundcloud.com/jan-meerkerk/catching-up

It's all S1 with it's onboard effects. I haven't counted but I think I used about 35 tracks.

Cheers !

well... constructive crit for ya... the vocals... that is the most important thing in this or any song... I had trouble discerning words and phrases in your mix... the guitars were a bit brittle and seemed to poke at my ears and distract even more from the vocal.. also panning on guitars was weird in my headphones and put me off balance in my chair and i almost fell off... then when the song came back down towards the end there was a weird kahflump in the drums like the guy fell on the kit??? I don't hear this at all on the tracks so maybe something got kahflumpulated somehow... good start tho! do another... tighten it up... even out the guitars and gimme some love on the vocals... think sweet and intimate with the vocal... BASS! c'mon you fraid-o-bass?... gimme some bass love too... not loud but rich, deep and full... acoustic guitars need to be nice and warm and pretty not hard and cold... And what happened to the back vocals... not in yur mix at all??? gimme da love! the guitar swells? they were hardly there and they should not be in your face but if you open the mix up a bit and place them in the rafters in the back of the hall... they can be louder and back there moaning... they act like stings in a way...

let's see what you get on your next mix... this is great practice and learning huh?

I sat and listened to all the tracks and divided the drums up in the two sections... they were every other when I opened the session so I put all the brush tracks to the left followed by the heavier drums so it comes back to the brushes at the end. I listened to the room and ambient tracks. I used them all they sounded great! I did a wide pan on the overheads then closed the pan up on each of the room and ambient drums so the further away it sounded the closer to center and "layered" them better into the mix. I used all guitar tracks too... did the same with layering the pan wit like kind tracks... I listened to all the vocals and liked the U67 (neuman mic) track 2 the best... didn't use any edits as this was a great take all in one and to me that is magic so leave it be!

I used both the bass D/I and the amp and they worked well together and had slightly different tone characteristics...

I took a little cymbals swipe from the intro and placed it on the last note of the song... drama. queen I am!

the tracks are well recorded and sound great so they didn't need a ton of EQ and compression... just a tad to sweeten them where the mix dictated.

I went for a more subtle mix vocal forward

it's interesting listening to the other mixes... sound cloud is great as i can have a few up at once and ping pong between them to hear different mixes same parts etc...

Sounds good.. drums in intro were a bit too much for the brushes section... for a subtle sweet song like this.. let the guitars and voice take it...some real bad amp hiss in the intro guitars??? the swell guitars were a bit amp noisy too and i could really hear it in your mix speshly at the fade out... I put them way in the back of the band and dumped the amp grind and hiss that was really distracting. bass? what bass? who needs bass...???? her vocal was tiny and small... gimme da love on her vocal! what no back vocals at all? gimme da love dude da love!

I think it needs to be more intimate... sweet... open it up and let it breathe... look at those ambient track for the drums... there is magic there... find it!... gimme da bass love! bass!...

let's hear another mix! one with some sweet intimate vocal and the drummer needs to make love with those brushes not sex! get friendly with the bass... and knock the hissoff the guitars!

great start! this is fun listening to all the different mixes...

Wow, I guess mine must have been worse than I thought

I went for understatement. What I had hoped for was more feedback so I could try and try again. I do need to fix that beginning though. Maybe tonight, pretty tired of the song

listening to this now... you should put this on sound cloud instead of YouTube for a better sound... seems a bit lo fi... I have a code I will post that you can put at the end of all YouTube url for high quality play back... they dumb it down for bandwidth... I know the code for full band width... big difference... use sound cloud for audio... much better playback algorithm...

what happened to the little cymbals in the intro??? swell guitar sounds thin and too close to the mix.. make em moan and cry off in the distance... they have noise on em so you need to mask that . Dang it!!! Another fraid-o-bass mix... gimme da bass love dude! not volume, rich and full and deep to hold the vocal... geeeesh! nice acoustic guitars! drums sound way too compressed when they kik in...
back vocals! you found em! now lay em out wider and lush... to thin... give them babes some butt and a rose garden and some ribs n chicken...

good start! I would go for more intimacy ... be sweet and get the vocals to make me cry... they are a bit hidden and need to come out... wish I could see the wave form like on sound cloud... decompress the drums... look into those ambient drum track for the magic hidden there! Gimme da bass before slap ya !..

try this... put this code at the end of a youtube url for high quality audio play back: &fmt=18
just did this to yours and had to listen close but could hear more "INTO" the mix... speshly the vocal they suck the life out so what can you do? cant program it into your links but if you send a link add it to that and they will get it! youtube sux!
