Slip Editing

In this screengrab you will see very fast slip editing using split with fades (A size for the fades in prefs is desirable)
You can see that as i split it creates a very tiny fade (Tiny is all that is needed) either side of the split with no extra key press
I then also show dual sizing, this is a feature that speeds up slip editing amazingly, because you dont have to be accurate with your split, you can just split and then pull the fade into place to get the perfect edit very rapidly.
Obviously in this screengrab i am exagerating everything so take no notice of the slow speed hehe.

Here is an example of how it would fit into the current toolset

Eraser Sizes
A lot of devs just don't get how powerful this tool is.
Free = wherever you drag with the left click button down gets erased ignoring snap
Item = As is now
The rest are all grid divisions
(Really to see the true power of this kind of tool just try the free version of Acid, one of the only apps where it has been implemented in a good way)

Here is an example of how it would fit into the current toolset

No Selection Needed
This for me is currently a huge passion killer in Studio One.
The need to select an item before adjusting fades or item volume.
As you can see in this example it is much quicker to just be able to grab any items selected or unselected, fade and volume handles and just adjust

Ok while I am on the subject of the fades and volume, i noticed a very simple tweak that will make editing them much easier too, just a simple color change.
While i was making this shot i also thinned the selection line down to one pixel because two pixels is just too obtrusive when slip editing accurately (I must add here that currently i can't use S1 for long periods of time because the selected blue and so on give me a terrible headache, dodgy eyes i'm afraid) personally i wouldn't have any selection line, i tried these for a while on the items in the app i used above for the screengrabs, everybody in the studio just found them obtrusive while editing.
EDIT* Small note here too, the item name is a little intrusive for me personally, if you look in the screen caps i think that kind of bar above an item as an info strip for the item is way less intrusive because it does not impede on the waveform.

Anyway one of the devs said he was looking forward to an FR of this stuff , so here it is, I didn't have much time to spend on doing the screengrabs , so take them for what they are, done rapidly with a mousepad

NAS. ... The only reason I didn't it here earlier was because I gave it full support in the original discussion and I know they mostly read the whole forum.

Well I do quite a bit of heavy editing, too, and now that I have a better picture (pun intended) of what you are talking about, I really like the ideas you are suggesting here. Every saved keystroke and mouse-click can be a real time-saver when working on a very large, edit-intensive project. (I've been dealing with an album for a publisher that contains >1300 takes, and thousands of edits of all kinds for the last two months, so I think that gives me a special appreciation for the efficiency aspects of what you suggest.)

To me these types of things fall into a sort of "work smarter" category that I would like to see PreSonus focus their energies on (let 3rd-party plug-in developers develop plug-ins, for example).

Just curious, what DAW is shown in your graphics? (I can't say I recognize the interface.)

Reaper has some nice features alright and is awesome for slip editing but overall, I find the editing in it terrible. It's slowly getting there with v4 but is still quite a way off. PT is still the best for editing IMO.

Working smarter is the best thing IMO.

The plug may be very dependent of several things (will Artist not have VSTs?)

I also think that a DAW should have some basic VSTi (Mojito is way below that) specially because they can be so CPU firendly.

Plus I really hate to waste money on something like a nice De-esser and other much needed/basic plugs.

Anyway work smart is the best kind of work one can do .
