Woah, that's terrible, nearly as bad as having to select an item to adjust the item fades and volume, surprised in such a slick app how far the editing is behind the times.
for an auto crossfade option and also plus one for the future possibility of the mouse cursor being a bit smarter for things like fades and event volume context without selection.
I wouldn't call it terrible coming from Cubendo which is much the same but I agree with NAS that there are better methods for those things.

I guess we do, because if you do any kind of beat slicing and programming on the timeline this is terrible having to select an item to adjust fades and volume, when the chances are you could have hundreds of slices, now factor in the extra click if it be click on the keyboard to move to next item or click on the mouse to select the next item an you are pretty much doubling your time taken to edit.
That is terrible
But i will make a concise FR with all the issues i am finding with detailed editing in the FR part of the forum for you to roll your eyes at
Cheers

You don't have to manually adjust them, when you select the 2 events, hit the X key and they will crossfade automatically.
Oh, and sorry about the rollyeyes. I thought I hit the "Wink"
I apologise you meant the auto crossfade thing not being terrible, actually again i have to disagree entirely, when working with a lot of bands nowadays they expect you to make them sound tight (Like it or not, that is how it is) using slip editing and having to stop and click everytime to create a xfade when you could in fact have thousands of slices for an entire song including all instruments.
I am not entirely sure you get what i meant by an auto crossfade for slip editing anyway, and that is my fault for not being clearer, the pressing X that you suggested only works for overlapping items, what is needed is a crossfade at slice, this is the most common and fastest way to slip edit, so i apologise for not being clearer.
My point earlier was about adjusting the item fade and vol, when slicing beats for DnB and editing on the timeline you tend to adjust each individual vol and decay, which takes an extra click.
Anyway i think this will be simpler if i do some screen grabs and explain hahaha
I will make up a nice FR in while.
NAS
EDIT* Actually X works for the slice thing too but it is actually two extra clicks haha, one to select the previous item and one to press x
So even worse, but anyway like i say, screen grabs are better than ten thousand words.

Ok, I get what you need but just so you know, I just tested this and they do NOT have to overlap for the crossfade to work. I just cut a track into several pieces, highlighted and hit X and they all did the crossfade.
I was quite comfortable with the way crossfading worked in PT and DP for years.
When S1 first came out, I thought their way of handling it was not as good, but now I actually prefer it. I find that I'm getting crossfades done more accurately on the first try now, with seldom a need to go back and tweak something to make things line-up right and sound good. When overlapping the events by sliding one over or under the other, you can see the waveforms of both (translucent layering) making it a breeze to line up the waveforms. In PT and DP, I often have to create the crossfade, audition it, tweak, re-audition, re-tweak, etc. PITA, and time wasting.
Who has fully automatic crossfading, anyhow? I haven't seen anything like that in any of the DAWS that I've worked with or demo-ed.
Definitely not on board with the statement of S1 being "behind the times," though. This software is still quite new, for one, and PreSonus software development have adopted an posture of seeking stability over all else, and also emphasizing a well thought out implementation of features with an eye to improving artistic workflow. I, for one, applaud their efforts, and hope they do nothing to change their careful approach -- even if it means forgoing the latest "gotta-have-it" features out there.
I know little of software coding. What they do in the backrooms of software development is pretty amazing to me. The fact that these companies can get this stuff to work for us at all is pretty amazing to me. I'm old enough to remember how many hundreds of thousands (maybe even millions) of $$ worth of gear it used to take to do what we can do with a modern DAW (and you really couldn't do anywhere near the range of things that are commonplace now). I'm just grateful to have all of these minds dreaming up this stuff, and I try not to be too quick to criticize any of the companies that are out there seeking to build the ideal mousetrap. I just don't think we are ever going to see one super-program pop-up someday that will be everything to everyone.
That said, I do like a good feature request, so I'd like to know more about the auto-crossfading of which you speak. You also mentioned "slip editing." I think of that as a PT term (as in their editing modes: slip, shuffle, spot, grid). Sure wish that some of the behaviors of those editing modes could be implemented in S1 -- particularly the behavior in their "shuffle" mode. S1 doesn't really have a "slip mode," per se, just snapping on or off. I'm assuming you were just referring to the action of sliding and event across the timeline to make it overlap the other event.
If you feel passionate about it, put your ideas on the FR page. PreSonus pays attention. They may or may not choose to act on any given idea (and if they do it may take some time while they develop up their own take on it), but I can tell you for sure that they have their ears to the ground all the time, and they are genuinely interested in getting user input.

Nice graphics, Johnny. (Wish I was quicker at whipping those out, like you.) Looks like you posted while I was writing. Seems pretty simple (and quick) to me. Try doing that with tape!

Yeah right? Hey man, I still have my open reel and the cutting block. I couldn't even imagine going back to that....lol
Actually S1 has a great slip edit for what its worth.
You hold ctrl+alt on either the arrow or slice tool, it is very very slick and this is why i said behind the times in terms of usefulness of this tool.
Like i said i will do an FR to show what i mean, I know audiocave knows what i mean because he has used Reaper which is pretty much the fastest app around right now for this type of editing, a couple of tweaks here and there and S1 could easily be up with it.
Also for what it is worth i never actually critiscized the developers, far from it i think
Muzik i noticed that it worked and edited my other post before you replied hahahah , sorry bout that.
