Hi, i'm close to get this unit, firestudio mobile, and I´m not sure if it will work with my laptop HP (it has an IEEE 1394 port), searching in the net about problems an reviews I found that some people said " presonus don't work whith HP laptops". Is this a fact?, my laptop has a centrino (core duo) processor, 1,6 GHz, 2 G ram, 80 G hard drive (5400 rpm) and it has a firewire port, so Y guess it would be ok, but this comments about incompatibility pull me back.

thanks for your comments, and greetings from Chile

You laptop has a Ricoh firewire chipset in it. These are not compatible with the DICE chipsets used in Presonus interfaces.

Not all HP computers use Ricoh and there are several models that work very well with Presonus gear.

We had a similar problem with our HP laptop - we use a work station 8710w with max everything... it has the small firewire connector and uses the Ricoh - just couldn't get it to work...

Here is what we did:

We got a PCMCIA card that was recommended (let me know if you need that information.) The card and it has the larger 6 lead firewire connectors - so far it has all worked flawlessly and has not hung or stopped once. We use the Studio Live 16. Also, we have ProTools and another recording device that we use that is connected to the docking station.

Hope that helps!

thanks for your answers... my laptop is an HP Pavillion DV 2120 la, it has a intel centrino duo 1,6 GHz, 2 G of ram, hard drive of 80 G (5400 rpm), and i'm not sure wich chipset has te firewire port, i reach out for some information but i can't find it, I guess that i will have to open the laptop to find the true about mi firewire port. Also it would be interesting to see if an expansion card could be the solution.
thanks for your help folks, and excuse me about my english, I'm wrinting from Chile, southamerica.

Hey wata!

You don't need to open up the computer - there's a program that will tell you if you're compatible, one of the tech guys here sent me the file. I have it here if you want to try it http://www.lovell-studios.com/lsd/aps/ohciTool.zip

Running that told me that what I had was not compatible...

But the new PCMCIA card seems to work well!

Just wanted to throw a quick caveat onto that previous post.

I'm not sure about the PCMCIA cards but you still have the potential for problems with an Expresscard. Teh Ricoh chip is most likely controlling the PCI express bus that an expresscard operates on. You still have the potential for problems.

If you're OK with spending the funds on it then it might be worth a chance.

Not disagreeing but just lettign you know a possible problem ahead of time even with an approved card.
