Hi there,

My Firestudio Project appears to have a hiss. When my studio monitors are connected I can hear a soft background hiss that is increases if I turn up the output volume. This will occur without any audio playing through my computer. It is also present on the headphone jack as well. This will occur without any microphones plugged in, all input gain knobs turned off, and the outputs disabled in the Universal Control program.

Is my unit likely to be faulty? I have had it a few years and bought it second hand. It has worked fine up until recently.

I know it's not the speakers/headphones because they work perfectly using the same cables in my Firestudio Mobile. Have tried another power cable as well as firewire.

Any suggestions?

Have you tried to change your fuse ? I did that on one of my Projects with a similar problem and it went away. Are your soundcard close to the monitors or have you changed to other cables to your monitors ?

No haven't tried to change the fuse, wouldn't have a clue how to do that. Suppose I would need to open it up?

Yeah the Firestudio Project is about a metre away from the speakers etc. I haven't changed the cables because everything works fine when i'm using my Firestudio Mobile device. Only happens with the Project device.

The fuse is right under the power cable, a little black square that can be opened with a flat screwdriver. Remember to disengage the power cable first.
I don't know if it will help you, but it helped me to change the fuse.
If it is an issue with dirty power I bet others here can help you better.
