For those of you that had the 16.4.2 non AI version, and now own the newer one, have you seen any improvements in what you are doing, in sound quality, Recording, or problems on the job, over the older model. I am thinking about upgrading and want to know if this is a great idea. Esp, with the offer going right now.

Don't have the AI, but I have heard many reports that the audio quality is noticably better with the AIs (which amazes me, as I was always pretty floored by the quality of the original).

I work with the 16Ai regularly, after having started several years on a standard 24.4.2. I do feel the channels sound better, but the sound per channel is only the beginning of a long list of upgrades that the 1st generation mixers simply won't see.

Among them:

More FX channels, with better control
Firmware upgrade options, soon to include online updates
A removable card that house FW800 and ethernet, that will shortly add such major features as Dante.
Onboard wifi (no laptop needed)
and on, and on...

The biggest thing is that this is the developing platform, meaning everything coming will be for the Ai boards. Presonus still supports the 1st gen boards, but they have topped out in what can be crammed in there. The Ai boards have a lot of room to grow, and they are in continual development.

It is the way to go.

Have the issues with firewire disconnection and system reset/popping been resolved with the new boards?

Thanks.

There have been several firmware updates, I don't recall all the specific issues addressed. I do know the loud pop on startup was one of them. I haven't experienced the firewire issues on my Macbook Pro, so I haven't paid a lot of attention to that particular one but I am sure that would be a top priority... likely good there.
