I have searched here and elsewhere but found no definitive answer to this question: Can the Mackie ProFX12 be used as a DAW Controller for Studio One?
I have the Presonus 1818VSL for home recording and would like to add a Mixer (Hardware) for live but was hoping this Mixer would also be capable of being used as a Controller.
The ProFX12 comes with Tracktion3 so I assume it is a Controller for this DAW.
Thanks in advance.

The ProFX is not a DAW controller it's a mixer. It is possible to record the main outs and to listen to a stereo input if it has a USB port but that's it. 2 in/outs stereo.
That Tracktion is bundled with it is not making it so. It's to give newstarters a chance to try out a DAW.

The ProFX is not a DAW controller it's a mixer.

Thanks for your reply and it reads definitive, however, from where did you acquire this definitive answer?
My 1818vsl connects via usb and it has more than 2 outs and thru Studio One I can assign to these multiple outs, the Faderport connects via usb and is a Controller for Studio One, Studio One is and supports Mackie Control compatible. For these reasons I am asking.

I stated in my post that the ProFX is a mixer (I knew this) and was only asking if it can also be used as a controller. I have the 1818vsl to record with so I was not interested in recording with the ProFX.

Thanks,
Steve

I have a ProFX 22 mixer myself.
I have a Faderport and that's a DAW controller I also have a Mackie Control Unit (MCU) and that is also a DAW controller.
The Mackie protocol is used by both but it don't mean that all from Mackie can be used that way.
If you need more info goto the Mackie page there you will propably learn more about the differences than I can tell you.

By the way. If you are in need of a controller, in the near future there will be released a controller from Behringer that could cater all your needs in this respect if a Faderport don't cut it for you. The Mackie Controller is expensive.
Check out the Behringer page at behringer.com

Thanks Klypeman and mwright137. It is now definitive. You both have this equipment and it does not work as a controller.

I appreciate your replies.
