I just wanted to share my idea with PreSonus and all you folks because I believe it addresses one of the biggest issues with the Studio Live boards. As we have all experienced, when we make adjustments to the FOH via an iPad, the sliders on the board do not move because they are not motorized. This makes is difficult when going back to the board to make adjustments. Once the slider is moved on the board, the level jumps back to where the slider (on the board) was last left resulting in a potential drastic level change. Motorized sliders would cause the price of the Studio Live boards to climb which leads me to my idea.

As I was working with the iPhone app, I thought, why doesn't PreSonus get rid of the traditional slider on their boards and replace it with a wheel with an LED meter next to it just like the one on the iPhone app in the "Wheel of Me" display? They could also change the sliders on the iPad app and the computer interface to the wheel design so that all interfaces operate and look the same. With this, anytime a channel is changed with the iPad or computer, the LED meter on the board next to that corresponding channel will change without having to change the wheel. In other words, there is no need for a motorized wheel or slider saving money and making the board and computer devices more user friendly. This can be done because the wheel has no markings on it so when going back to the board to make adjustments, it will pick up where the other devices left off.

Well, that's my idea. Let me know what you all think.

Didnt they address this with the option to have the board default to Fader Locate mode if adjusted from the iPad? Allowing you to, upon returning physically to the mixer, move your faders to the physical location of your iPad virtual adjustments...

I rarely use the faders anyways. I always find myself leaving the mixer side stage (with my monitor tech) and i run the show from the iPad only. The main caveat being he knows where i like my pre-amp levels to sit, based on content of the source.

Hi Dennis,

Can you give me a step by step to do this? Although it's a pain to continue matching the faders to my virtual adjustments, it's better than the drastic level changes that I'm experiencing. I move back and forth from the board to iPad a lot and run into this problem frequently.

Thanks.

That's an interesting idea. Not only would it be interactive with the iPad mix, but it also gets rid of those cruddy faders. They are not smooth, collect dirt, and go bad. It would also knock several inches off of the chassis size. Although, I love being able to quickly glance at the board to verify how close the faders are to unity.

Maybe they could finally be midi faders, and control the daw?

desertsoundaz@gmail.com ,

Thanks for your response. I never thought about the the fact that the wheel would shorten the board's footprint. That makes it easier to gig with. As far as the unity marker, they could put one next to the led meter next to each slider on both the board and virtual interfaces.
