Hi,

I allready have a Presonus Firepod (before they named it FP10), but I'd like to have an additional smaller one, for quick use and portabliity.

Which of the three is better/best and what are the differences?
I also saw the audiobox, but I am a bit biased, when it comes to USB and also I heard, people having problems with it.

Any other small 1 or 2 jack interfaces like the Inspire/Firebox to recommend?

Also, I just registered. How do I set a Username, instead of a real name?

Thanks in advance.

The AudioBox is fine unless you have one of the new USB 3.0 chipsets. Then you MIGHT have issues. I use one all the time.

There's a FireStudio Mobile that has a small footprint if you like FireWire.

I would go for a Firestudio Mobile who has the same preamps as Firestudio Project as I got the Inspire and I personally like the preamps and control of them in my Firestudio Project better.
You would still be able to daisy-chain more if needed later.
The advantage with the 22VSL and the 44VSL (USB) is that you got a Fat Channel With EQ, Compressor and Gate and if I remember correctly Reverb.
(If Im wrong on the Reverb thing in VSL22,VSL44, VSL1818 please correct me)

From the AB 22 VSL product page:

Each channel and DAW return, both FX buses, and the Main Mix output bus in AudioBox VSL software can be processed with the Fat Channel section, which includes a separate compressor, limiter, and downward expander that were modeled after the classic, analog PreSonus ACP88. They deliver the advantages of programmable digital processors but they sound very much like analog. You also get a high-pass filter with -6 dB/octave slope and a variable cutoff frequency (18 Hz to 1.3 kHz) and phase reverse.

The Fat Channel’s 3-band quasi-parametric EQ has a high/low Q switch on the mid band and switchable shelving on the low and high bands. Each EQ band can be individually switched on/off.

You can monitor and record with or without Fat Channel processing.

Time-based effects such as delay and reverb are delivered by two stereo effects processors, which are assigned to dedicated effects buses and come with 30 user-editable factory presets. The reverbs are so rich and detailed that you feel like you’re there. Delays are precise. Slap echo sounds like old-skool tape effects.

Thanks to both of you for the quick response. You make it easy for me then.
I will go with the Firestudio mobile, if it has better preamps than the Inspire.
I do not need EQ, compressors etc., so the USB one is out, too I think.

Where is the Firebox set between the Inspire and the Firestudio mobile?

Is there an increase of latency, if I once daisy chain the Firestudio mobile with my existing Firepod, over using an additional FW or USB port on my Mac directly?

Does that mean, that I accidentally typed in my realname as a username myself? It could be, I was a bit tired yesterday. But I think I just had to fill in
First name
second name
email
confirm email
password
confirm password

Or is the username generated automatically from the name? I wonder, since some of you have nicknames.

You cannot daisy chain the Firestudio with the Firepod. They are not compatible. That will only work with another
Firepod, Firebox or Inspire.

Hm... ok, that is something to consider...

In the compatibility list, I see that my Firepod is not compatible with the newest OS (I have 10.4 and 10.5 currently, because of PowerPC), but there is a Firestudio 2626 that is not compatible (so I guess it is compatible with 10.4 and Firepod, still?) and a Firestudio project, which is compatible with 10.8, so I guess the Firestudio project would as well not be compatible with my Firepod and 10.4.?
Or is that a wrong conclusion?

I mean it would widen my choice and add the Firestudio 2626 to it.
