Not sure the technical term for this, believe it is 'Sound-on-Sound' but it's the standard in most modern DAW's and takes us back to the stone-age of tape-based recording without it, how can I (without having to duplicate said track and manually drag and comp each take to the other track) record new takes/layers to a track, and still listen to the previous recording at the same time? I'll take anything you got, anything but this double track comping business.

There is a setting in global preferences for "Tape Style Monitoring". IIRC, from the start page, go to Studio one/options/advanced. Not in front of the daw at the moment, but I know its in that options menu somewhere. I mimics the tape machine where the record head is after the playback head in transit.

Sorry, I mean more like auditioning the previous recording rather than the track being muted when it is being recorded to. I can't see any sensible reason why I wouldn't be able to hear previous takes and layers whilst I am recording a new take or layer to the same track.

AFAIK, only the promoted layer will play, nothing underneath. Sorry, I misunderstood what you asked.

Is this going to be added to a future version? Every DAW I've ever used can handle this function, I can't possibly see why it isn't an option in S1? It's just too much of a workflow killer to add a second track to record to, then drag from that track to the old one, just to be able to audition the previous take as you record the new one.

No idea if this will be added in the future, and I wouldn't take my answer as final. Someone else will surely chime in and either confirm or deny my answer.

You may do better moving this to the S1 forums, as this is an S1 question.

So, does anyone have any ideas is this is possible or if it will be rolled in at a future date?

What are you trying to achieve? Layering of audio material in real time? I think this could be useful. You record a take, then you add another take while being able to heard the previous one etc. The current state of affairs is that you can only hear one take a time, and normally the input that's being recorded is considered to be the active take, hence you can't hear the other stuff. Could definitely do with some options to allow users to monitor previously recorded material.
Windows 7 64-bit
Intel Core i7 920 CPU, 12 GB RAM
RME FireFace 400, NI Audio Kontrol 1
Presonus Studio One 2 v2.6.2 64-bit

My feature wish list:
1. Automation clips
2. Ability to (optionally) undo everything, inc. plugin and mixer knob/fader/buttons, add/remove insert, add/remove plugin, etc...
3. Mixer snapshots
4. Wraparound slide audio items like in Reaper

I can definately see the benefit. Only workaround is recording separate tracks, but then loop recording is out of the picture.

It seems like it could be an extremely useful function to include, sound-on-sound recording. It's just annoying that it isn't an option in there somewhere and I have to record between two different tracks to accomplish this.
