I find the SRH440's an excellent option and good value for money. They are a lot more predictable with their smoother freq response. The 280's have slightly better isolation and about a 10dB boost in the low end. This is why a lot of DJ's love them. If you put the aftermarket 840 pads on the 440's, I find you get better low end extension and isolation. Plus they are comfier.

As far as monitors: Dynaudio BM5a mk2. Or second hand BM6a mk1- the mk2 aren't as good.

If you can afford em (one day, one day....) Event Opals. wow!

funkafize,

thanks a lot for sharing your thought about this.

do you have a link to the headphone pads for 840's that will fit the 440's?

thanks,

kibo

http://www.shure.com/americas/products/accessories/earphones-headphones/index.htm

Product code HPAEC840.

Interestingly there is also a code for a SRH940 headphone; must be a new top of the range model coming.

by the way can anybody suggest a way to set up my connections for my monitor speakers? i suppose i will use the SL1642's control room output, right?

i just realized now that i had to take a few connections when using my mixer to church and hooking it up again....

I suppose you can use either the control room outs or main outs, if you're only using one set of monitors either would work. One gives you a fader, the other a knob, that's the only difference I can think of.

hi guys,

i think it sounds good. better than the B2030A that i had but it lacks obviously the low end. for me, i think it needs a sub but i will be content with this for quite sometime... i set it up this way...
