I researched laptops and firewire cards specifically to use with my StudioLive 16.0.2. Toshiba Satelite windows 7 64 bit, StarTech TI chipset firewire card. Not yet working. Works fine on desktop and my older (Phonic Helix mixer) works fine with my laptop. I think that the Presonus stuff must be more picky.

It's very likely just an OS configuration issue. The 1602 has a lot more I/O than the helix.

i have been using an older HP laptop with a TI chipped firewire card and it has worked acceptably. but it seems to be slowly dying, drive speed/space issues and screen flickering.

I also have a Rain LiveBook MS-163K with pretty good specs that could be used i suppose, BUT it has no firewire port or slot, has anyone had any luck with firewire to USB with the studiolive & SL remote & Capture?

The firewire to USB does not work for audio unfortunately. If you find yourself needing an upgraded laptop, there are a few options.

I had to replace my HP last year. I found the only units to have an expresscard slot were small business machines. They are listed on the manufacturer website (Dell or Lenovo). Another option is to look at older models on closeout sites, or an older model Mac can be had for cheap as well.

Haven't seen anyone else mention it but I had a problem with Windows 7 Home premium. I've been using a Toshiba Satellite A665-S5170. After upgrading it to Windows 7 Professional I haven't had any issues. This Toshiba has an express card slot.

i found it! this laptop has an express slot, i just couldn't find the secret panel on it. hiding in plain sight!. i will find out if it works this weekend.

I was a little surprised when you said the RAIN laptop didn't have a slot.
