Hi guys,

I've successfully been able to Daisy Chain two Firestudio Project interfaces together with firewire and S/PDIF. My only problem now is a bad pot on my main volume knob (I intend to get that fixed via a local hardware store), and a playback / recording cutout. Sometimes when I'm recording or playing a track back, the Firestudio unit's lights go from solid blue to red for a split second then change right back. Obviously it is followed by corresponding sound cutting out for a moment then going back on. Do you know how to fix this?

I didn't notice this problem when I was using a single unit by itself.

Thanks for your help.

Sounds like a dropout.

Could be a faulty cable or something is wrong in your operating system. Can't be sure without a lot more data.

I have the EXACT same problem. I suppose I will buy a new firewire cable and try that.

Alex, what OS are you using? I am on Windows 7. I have two Firestudio Projects daisy-chained, running into my PC through a Firewire card. I am on StudioOne Artist.

The only unit that has the problem is the one that is daisy-chained (i.e., not the one connected to the computer). I get the blink of the red light on that unit maybe half a second every two or three minutes.

I'm going to go pick up a new firewire cable to put between the two units and see if that helps. I'll let you know either way.

Which OS are you using? There are daisy-chaining-issues with Mavericks.

I'm on Windows 7 on a PC, so it's not that... still need to run out and get that Firewire cable... hopefully it's nothing more than a faulty cable.

See if you can connect the second unit by itself to the pc to rule out a device issue. Then see if you can chain them together, but switch the firewire jacks you use on the back. If you normally use the left jack to go fsp to pc, and the right jack to chain the units, flip that around and rule out the jacks being an issue as well.

Well, the good news is that the second device connects independently to the PC without any issue. The bad news is that I'm still getting the red flash when the devices are daisy-chained. I switched the cable, which made no apparent difference, and then I switched around the jacks I was plugged into per Matthew's suggestion. (I also tried several different jack combos with the original cable.) No dice.

The weird thing is, if I daisy chain the first unit into the second (with the second going to the PC), I get the same red flash on the second unit, even though it's the one connected to the PC. Makes me wonder if both of my jacks on the second unit are messed up. But we already established that it connects to the PC on its own just fine (over five minutes without a dropout, and the longest I've seen it go without dropping out when daisy-chained is three minutes).

I'm at a loss... and I don't have time for this nonsense. I've got someone coming over in three hours to record. Guess we'll just be punching in everywhere my hardware fails me. Very disappointing.

Any other thoughts? Thanks for the input so far. I'm a n00b at recording in general, so if you think of something that might be obvious to you, it's probably not obvious to me.

I've never done it, but can they be chained using spdif?

Are you connecting the one with the lowest serial number first (to your computer)? I'm not 100% sure it makes a difference, but it DOES make a difference on which FireStudio has the first set of inputs...
