Good Day All;
Our church is getting ready to move into the digital age. I have investigated all of the gear needed to make this happen. My only concern is the Apple MacBook Pro we are thinking of getting. Below are the specs for the MacBook. Please inform me if you feel it will not be sutable for interfacing with the 32.4.2AI. This will be the first time I've really used a MacBook, although there are many individuals in our church who can teach me the basics and get me around the desktop.
Thanks in advance

Best connectivity Express card/firewire 2 port (400) that does NOT suggest having the TI chipset. (always worked great)

This sounds like smooth sailing in my book With a Firewire 800 cable.
The FireWire/Thunderbolt is what I use myself sometimes with my setup when I use the Projects or the 24.4.2 and I want a external harddisk there too.
My Mac has Firewire 800 build-in as well as Thunderbolt.
Mind I have a 24.4.2 and not a 24.4.2 AI but I use a Firewire 400/800 cable to the mixer.
Somewhere I read that the cable has to be bi-lingual (thinks that it means that it's both ways in stream of data)

that was my 5 cents

Yes, 4 wire is mono lingual, and 6 and 8 pins are bi-lingual Just understand that the new macs with the ivybridge and USB 3.0 ports don't work for Audio Box VSL devices...

GTMusic:

In the past month I purchased a new MacBook Pro with lower specs than yours. It works fine for capture. I specifically purchased the non-retina MBP because it was the only one available with a Kensington lock option and I needed that for church use.

I have not tried using StudioOne with any live plugins for software based effects yet. I expect it will be fine. Your spec'd laptop should be well more than enough for basic capturing of all 32 channels. Just be aware that if you use capture 2+ hours a week, your disk space will fill up eventually and you'll need to have plans for archival or deletion of old recordings. Who will maintain the recordings, remix them, and export them as appropriate? Have that figured out.

I tried to record most every service, concert, and band practice I could during the month of December. It was a busy month and I think my disk went from almost nothing to maybe 15% full. You'll definitely see the disk space problem coming before it runs you over, but I know very well how long a church can take to approve purchasing an external hard drive.

If your question hasn't been answered by one of us already, then let us know more details on how you hope to be using the system.
Church gear: SL 32.4.2AI, MacBook Pro 13" 2.5Ghz i5, iPad 2, 4x Sennheiser ew100 G3, 3x Yamaha SM12V wedges, crummy main speakers
