I'm seeing an assortment of issues with the SL on the forum, but I would assume that these are isolated incidents. I've just sold my old board and am about to order the 16.4.2 to go along with the new i7 iMac coming next week. Pretty much for home recording purposes, although I may take it on a gig at some point.

It would be nice to have some confirmation that the SL is a solid, reliable product, and not plagued with a myriad of shortcomings. I work in tech support and know that it's hard to judge how well a product is doing based on the observation of the daily goings on in the support department. There are always some units that have issues. Possibly that's what I'm seeing here...a lop sided view of the SL's reputation?

I've been a Digital Performer user forever, but have been urged by some to go the Logic route. Wondering if both will interface equally well with the SL.

thanks

I have an SL 16 that has been reliable as heck. I use mine for recording and monitor mixing, mostly.

I am also a DP user (on v7 now) and have no problems using it in conjunction with my SL in my home studio. (Although now I'm a big S1 convert -- still using PT and DP for some tasks, but on the whole loving the look, feel, and speedy workflow design aspects of S1 so much that I prefer to use it whenever I can.)

I try to keep abreast of all that happens on the forms here, and I am not aware of any problems using Logic with the SL, either.

I'm thinking of stepping up to an i3, i5, or i7 within the next few weeks. Please let me know how it is going for you when you get yours!

Good to hear Talmen.....I'm downsizing from a 24 channel behringer eurodesk, but, from what I read and hear, it will be a great upgrade for me. I don't think I'll miss the extra channels.

The i7 iMac will be here later next week, and I'll let you know how it goes. I talked to another guy with one, and he mentioned having a about 40 tracks going in Logic, along with some demanding plugin instruments, and the iMac was barely touching 1/4 processor usage.

I'll check out S1 for sure. I have not popped for the DP upgrade yet...maybe S1 and the version Logic 8 that I have will do.

I was on DP6, but decided to get v7 for the remote control via iPod/Pad app, which is very handy. If it hadn't been for that, I probably wouldn't have done the upgrade because not a lot changed from 6 to 7.

Thanks for the info!

both of the SL16 I operate are (now) stable and reliable. With older firmware versions I had some bad luck I guess but the current firmware seems to be rock solid, except for minor issues like GEQ not updating gain in the LCD while beeing adjusted. Nothing too serious, though.
The second unit has a problem with a noisy channel input regardless of gain setting but Hyperactive told me today they would send me a new pot to cure the problem. I already resoldered the input PCB and the problem was gone for about 2 weeks - now it's back.
Still the SL offers phantastic value for money and even non-sound guys like my light operators notice the difference in sound between an LS9 or 01V and the SL.

Regarding recording, I can only say that it works well with cubase 5 and both Windows XP and 7. No clue about fruity stuff, except for the iPhone I got as salary for a mixjob the other day - otherwise I'm still happy with IBM X60 and Windows
best regards, Sebastian

Thanks for that BJD...I just sold my old behringer eurodesk, and was getting sentimental about it going, hoping I wasn't making a mistake by missing extra channels and stuff, but, from all I read, it seems like the SL is far superior. Simply for the firewire interface alone, it's got it beat. I just received my i7 iMac, and am looking forward to getting everything talking. I'm trying to decide what DAW to use. I've been a Digital Performer user forever, but would need to upgrade now. I like the look and am used to it, but I also have Logic 8, although I've never used it. Everyone says it's great for all the added instruments and loops....but, I've had a few say that the Studio One is really good too.

All this will have to wait about another week though. As I was getting my studio room cleaned up downstairs, I discovered a bunch of dry rot in the outside wall and have since had to tear it out and rebuild the thing. This weekend I finish it up with new siding and then I'll be able to focus on getting my space back together.
