New Cakewalk Sonar X3 update: Melodyne integration via ARA, share your tracks directly from Sonar, Softube One Knob Saturation plugin and some other features and integrations. Do we have StudioOne copycat?

They made partnerships with Tone 2, Toontrack and other companies. Maybe this is the feature of all DAW's: to include best or major third part plugins as "native" plugins via integrations? Nice to see that StudioOne has become the new market standard and reference for other DAW's. All in one DAW's: mix, master and share your tracks just inside one program. Sonar just copied that clearly...

Yes I think that's the future, and it make a lot of sense to me. Why to invest a lot of manpower and money to create a plugin/VSTi/etc... which is surely below the level of other companies which are focused just on that since many years?

Look at Variaudio in Cubase (the Steinberg interpretation of software such Melodyne). They spent a lot of time/resources on that but it's way worse than Melodyne, so many of Cubase users use Melodyne anyway (me included).

Coming to the OP...Sonar X3 has an impressive bundle of 3rd party high quality software: Additive drums (199$), Melodyne essential (99$), etc...

They had the Sat Knob before Studio One iirc. It came free with the Expanded version, then they started including it for free after that. That's standard operating procedure for them to charge for some things, then after a while they include them for free. The big ones that come to mind are Rapture, Dimension Pro, and Softube Saturation. (Dim Pro and Rapture were LE versions up until a couple years ago. Then started including the full versions.)Plus they are including features and modules that normally you had to pay extra for, at no charge now.

As for the rest of it, no, I don't think they are copycatting Studio One. I think it's just the natural progression of things.

There's only so many things you can do with a DAW ... at some point the vast majority of all DAW's features and offerings are going to overlap.

They've always been great with what they bundled. Where they fall short is in stability. But I have a feeling with the introduction of VST3, and ARA, and the changes that had to be made to incorporate those functions, that there would almost have to be a stability improvement.

Even if there is, and I upgrade, I'll still use Studio One as well. I have no problem bouncing between the two, and I wouldn't want to be locked in to one DAW anyway.

What will be the determining factor for me as to whether I upgrade to X3 or not, will be if I can use the bundled VST's in Studio One. If I can't, I won't upgrade because I can't take a $149 chance that it will run reliably on my system.

Why would you be taking a chance instead of just waitingt and testing the demo on your system?

I don't understand why anyone who has had repeated stability issues with any software would not demo it first... the next time... and the time after that... and the time after that.

You're missing the point entirely.

I want the VST's. The two I'm mainly interested in are 3rd party ones that would cost almost twice as much if I bought them as stand alone products. BUT ... if I can't use them in another DAW, I'm not interested in upgrading.

Demo or no demo ... stability or no stability, if I can't use Addictive Drums or Strum Acoustic in another DAW, I'm not interested.

Edit: For example, I can use Session Drummer 3, Dimension Pro, Rapture, and almost all of the other VST's I got with X2 Producer in any DAW.

I'm actually sorry they didn't develop Session Drummer 3 any further. It's really a fantastic VST in my opinion.

Many of us have lots of VST's already, and more. But, for someone like you, that doesn't merely want to chance stability issues with a new Sonar update [ been there, done that], there is the value of knowing that you've at least acquired a number of usable plug ins, if in fact, they would work in S1.

We are asking the same question in two different posts.

I emailed someone I used to chat with at Cakewalk directly and asked, but I haven't gotten a response yet.

It seems there's mixed reviews on it so far on their forum. Crash reports, weird behavior, a nasty argument erupted about colors already. It's so sad, that place is like a ticking time bomb. Oh well, they locked me out months ago, so they can't blame it on me this time.

I watched all the Sonar releases up to 8.0, and then I was there for 8.5 through X2's release, and this is by far the least active I've seen their forum for a major release like this. It's got me kind of worried for them.

And another thing I'm seeing for the first time ... some of the Producer owners are downgrading and using 3rd party VST's because of the cost of the Producer upgrade.

I want them to be successful because the winner in the great DAW wars is the customer if you catch my drift.

Thanks for posting that, but I'm sorry man, I couldn't get past the 3 minute mark.
