This also was on the top 5 list of all surveys done in the last year and can be a great time saver for people would work with different instruments virtual or real. or any kind of scenarios where a song template is too rigid.

I think LMike got the basics with his original statement
LMike wrote:I really, really want this. It's a relative hassle to not be able to drop in a multi-out instrument and have everything already setup. Frankly, it was one of the (many) reasons I left Cubase because it seemed they had no particular interest in ever doing it. In the best case it would also include buses and sends. Drop in a preset and I have my instrument setup with everything exactly the way I stored it
.
I might add they are needed for audio scenarios too. For example recording a guitar with a soft amp or a quick set up for an electronic drum set or acoustic one.

Here are a few ideas:
With help from the forum perhaps we could further define the need?

The Template should store all the "add track meta data" as well as the routing outputs including a bus if applicable.

All FX and routing are stored

It support both Multiple input track configurations as well as multiple output routing's.

Thanks

Hmmm
This FR was top on the survey list for more than a half dozen regular forum members.....

I did a little research on it today to see if I could find other examples and I believe they are only available in Sonar and Reaper?.( the other two DAWs I have used). No wonder I thought they were prevalent. I saw somewhere that Cubase had them but I could not find an example..Oh they are called Track Preset s in Cubase. but look like they are just a set of plugins and not the routings.

They do save time for someone who is not structured enough to use a song template.

Oh well at least the requirement has its own thread and can be referenced over the nest few years.

I'd be a little surprised (and maybe a tiny bit disappointed) if track templates of some kind isn't up rather high on the todo list.

Unlike some of our other FR's, that one benefits anyone in just about any imaginable use case. Audio work, VI work, whatever. It's not genre specific (looping, sampling) or anything else like that.

So... fingers crossed.

for a well designed track preset feature in S1.

Currently (2.6) it's possible to store something like a small version of track presets by using musicloops. Import a musicloop, that can be a small empty event in an instrument channel, recovers the instrument channels with the loaded inserts. But all routings, fader settings are lost.

So please improvements in this area.

Yes! a track template would be incredible! I use ALOT of VI's. ranging from orchestral to general band sounds. Orchestra setups don't really change much, but I don't always need the whole orchestra, and I hate being locked in to an entire template. I would LOVE to be able to add my strings or brass independently. But they are not all on one channel. I use several separate channels, not just outputs from one instance.

what about being able to just save a track folder, and it bring (add new) that folder with whatever or however that track folder had set up?

just trying to throw ideas out, but from my short time using Studio One (since PreSonuSphere 2013, Joe Gilder's presentation)
I'm sure that whatever PreSonus comes up with will be revolutionary. Probably better than we could have even thought.

The more I look at the "guts" of the song file archive, the more I think it's (for them) maybe really just a matter of efficiently 'merging" the XML data.

The various parts of tracks and all that seem to be divided across multiple different XML files in the song archive. Perhaps (no clue, guessing as always) that same general song structure is resident in RAM when a song is actually open, no idea, but as I studied the viability of doing that myself with an add on - merging song data in those xml files, import session data, whatever - it seemed to be a good bit more complex than I thought it would be, because the descriptions of full tracks and routing and all that are (apparently) in multiple different xml files.

They'll get something like track templates done sooner or later. I think it's just a matter of time and patience.

Bump for this again - until it is implemented, I still mix in Nuendo since I have complex track templates for all of my drums/vocals there.
