Hi,

I have a yaaha LS9 that i use for some big events, but recently I've been doing some small clubs gigs and the ls9 is simply too big for the business. That's when the studiolive 16.4.2 came to mind. I already schrunk my channel count to 16, but the problem is with the mix sends. The band I work for has 4 members, each one using in-ear monitors, so I would need 4 stereo mixes for them. Since the SL 16.4.2 can only provide 3 stereo mixes, can I use two subgroups as the fourth mix (pre-fader)?

There is no pre/post fader for the subs.

If the user is ok with it being post fader (and you'll have to monitor the crap out of it) you could still do it.

Otherwise I'd suggest sending two people a mono feed.

Thanks. On a unrelated question, could I send the 2 Aux inputs and CD/tape In to the aux mixes?

Hey AittonPS

That you can by pressing Mix on an aux twice
Then the first 7 on the FAT channel become the Firewire return, Tape in, Aux in A, Aux in B, FX a, FX B and talkback

I like the SL, but not if I have an LS9 available. If there's no room out front, put it where ever it will fit, and mix on an iPad.

You could use the headphone mix on the board if you can get two guys to like the same mix. I do this to monitor the Main mix and then to monitor the drum stereo mix (solo). If everyone is on in-ears - this is a great way to drop in on them to hear what they are hearing. Yeah - never enough auxes.... Give it a try.... Just might work out.

You can also sacrifice the internal effects for 2 more auxes from S/PDIF. Simply send FX Send A/B to the SL's S/PDIF output. And you'll need a S/PDIF-to-line converter obviously.

Theoretically with this setup it's still possible to use the internal effects too, but they'll share their input mixes with "Aux 7 and 8".

Thank you all fir the answers. I found a used Studiollive 24.4.2 at the same price of the SL 16. I think I will go for it!
The SL24 would allow more inputs and the 4 stereo mixes I need.

Hey guys, as I said I bought a SL24. It arrived today! I got this for a really low price and since I don't intend to use AI very much I decided to go with the regular SL instead of the new AI family.
I must say I found the board extremely easy to use! I connected to VSL, SL Remote and Qmix in seconds! I also imported some gig files into Capture started to learn how to use the board, again really ease to use. I will be using th SL on a gig next week for the 1st time. Here are some photos:
