I was just wondering if any of you have compared the overall sound quality of the two units knowing that the converters are not the same (?). The Mobile has a bit more headroom. I am aware of the obvious differences of the preamps, both in number and gain. Not worried about it. Just want to know if one were to mix a session on both units and compared the two if there would be any difference. Thanks all.....

It really depends on the preamps. The Mobile has 8 true line inputs(including spdif). The Project has shared mic/line circuit paths afaik. So, with the Mobile, yes you have more headroom if you use your own preamps. This is a bonus simply because there are better preamps to be had than the ones in this box. Xmax to Xmax, you probably won't notice any major difference.

Thanks hue, and as I understand your answer, the headroom issue is only a factor with regards to the preamps -- input devices. So I take it that all things equal on the recording side, when one is mixing and getting to the final mix and mastering, the converters are identical and would sound and behave the same??? Or to put it another way.... I have recorded and mixed tracks in S1 and ready to master. Project and Mobile would produce the same final results. . .

I don't think you'll notice the difference in converters until you start investing in Avocet .

Edit: I should have said Crane Song but that's what I get for replying with my iPhone.
