I'm really interested in Studio One Pro but have a few questions:

1. I use Superior Drummer 2.0 for my midi drums. I currently use Sonar PE 8.5 and when I'm done programming my drums, I will freeze the synth so that resources are freed up. Is there a way to do this in Studio One?

2. When recording lead vocal tracks, I will record up to 8 versions all on the same track. Then I would create a vocal comp still working in the same track. I like to see all the individual takes. Is this possible in Studio One?

Please let me know,

Not sure outside of bouncing the track to Audio and then disabling the VSTi. But if you mean a dedicated Freeze button or one click freeze like some hosts have then S1 does not have that (yet). I believe frozen data can even be edited in one or two hosts but not with S1. But you could for now bounce the data first and disable the VSTi for a similar result possibly. Not a one click freeze (which definitely has its uses) but perhaps a workaround for now.

Freezing has been requested before so maybe this will be added to S1 at some point.

You can see all your takes at once but you would need to right click on the recorded data and choose "Unpack Takes to New tracks" first. The takes cannot be seen on the same track (at the same time) a show all layers FR has been mentioned on the forums would perhaps take care of that at some point in future. But with your takes on separate tracks you can edit them and see them at the same time.

For now editing your takes on separate tracks is the best way IMO to work with Vocal takes in S1.

I hope that helps.

db,

Thanks for your answers. If a track Freeze Button (either Instrument or Audio) and track layers were added to Studio One at some time, I would definately make the switch from Sonar to Studio One. Those are the only 2 features holding me back right now.

Thanks again.
