Hi folks. David Vignola and I have teamed up to show the differences and similarities between mixing with DAW native plugins and 3rd party plugins. There have been many questions on which is better and\or if it's even necessary to purchase 3rd party plugins, given the quality of native plugins available in any DAW.
David and I have mixed the same exact song, both using Studio One but he's using 3rd party plugins and I'm using S1 native plugins. Below you will find each of our videos series. David's is a synopsis after the actual mixing was done and mine was a step-by-step as the mixing progressed. You will see both our different styles and methods in our approach to this song. I hope you all enjoy the series!!
Below you will find the un-mastered mixdowns, right out of Studio One 2. Feel free to comment on which you prefer and why. Did the effects make a difference? Did the mixing style make a difference? Is it apple and Oranges? What ever it is, that's what this series was created for. Not which is better, which is preferred.

I only saw David's first video so far, but nice job explaining. These are very informative, and some very good fundamentals explained. Yes, those dedicated plugs with their own sound card are vital. Lexicon being one that I use as well to get that real Lexicon reverb sound.
Johnny, I'll be sure to check your vids out as well.
Thanks for sharing guys.

I watched your videos tonight for Part 1 and Part 2 and you did a super job. After seeing how you setup for unity gain, I opened a new project and tried that out. I will finish your Part 3 and then watch David's.
You did a great job and this work really is invaluable to anyone wanting to learn techniques by watching and hearing.
Thanks for great work.

I tried to get this sticky on the facebook page of studio one but no. Now I'll try to get it sticky here, becouse these videoseries would really help new users getting the hang of the whole magic of mixing!
Please, any OP on the presonus forum, MAKE THIS ONE STICKY! Thanks!
And to johnny and david, fantastic videos! Brilliant!
