Hey,

I have my Firebox running just fine since Windows 8 came out by extracting the installer and running Setup.exe in Windows 7 mode.
It first worked nicely on my old computer and now worked for some months just fine on my new one.
No problem ever.
But for some days now I can no longer change the sample rate and always get a warning in Studio One and other DAWs and audio software when I try to switch it or simply nothing happens. When I try to switch it with the PreSonus Firebox software "Hardware Settings" the dropdown changes the setting just fine, but the box doesn't switch.

Does anybody have any idea what the problem could be?
The unit works just fine otherwise so I wouldn't want to replace it before it burns out
Could it be some Windows Audio settings that keep the unit locked somehow?

Thanks for any ideas!

Cheers,

Tom

Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.....

Isn't it funny how when you ask a question sometimes you find the solution?
After days of useless struggle, just after I wrote above posting I found the problem:

My new computer has an onboard realtek audio device.
Recently I wanted to listen to some old tapes (yeah, my ages old AKAI GX-6 still works like new ) and because I no longer have HiFi speakers, I connected it to my computer through the line input of said realtek onboard device. In the Windows Sound Device Recording options I selected it as default input and in the properties you have a "Listen" tab where you can select to "listen to this device".
Worked just fine.

And that was the problem - it seems that this setting keeps a lock on the playback device (the firebox) and prevents it from changing the Sample Rate.

Phew - my beloved Firebox should work for some more time now

Cheers,

Tom
