The MXL LSC-1 is really nice, too. The nice thing is there are a lot of really decent mics out there for not much money these days. I don't think I listed anything that was over $200, and they are all really nice, versatile mics.

I have an old pair of Rode NT-1A's that see a lot of use. I've done vocals, all kinds of stringed instruments, and even a french horn with one of them. An NT-1A and an AKG 451 work great on acoustic guitar.

Any insight on the Shure PG27?
Even though I might get stick for saying so, I'd recommend a C1000. From experience, these are great for recording a lot of instruments. Although they tend to colour the sound ever so slightly, with the right placement, can produce a real creamy sound for an array of instruments.

for the Precision Series. I picked up a 220 LD condenser for about 130.00 at Guitar Center (mfr rebate of 50.00), and have been extremely happy with it. Vocals, loud guitar, acoustic. Seems to handle everything for me at a really great price point. Heck, the included shockmount and case would probably cost about 50.00 if I bought them separately.

Rode NT1-A? They have a bundle with shock mount and pop screen for $229.
Thread Hijack:Hey guys, I've got a question....
I'm looking to get a different condenser mic.
* I'm a contralto. My range is (C4 = middle C) C3 to F5.
* My upper register is from F4 to F5. This region doesn't sound louder but meters louder. Wait, it is louder. Sorry.
* Due to 20+ years of smoking my lower register tends to be a little thick.
* I tend to be very sibilant and there's nothing I can do about it except make the de-esser thing I've posted numerous times.
I'm looking for a condenser mic that will make me sound better. My budget is under $500.
So far: Rode NT1-A, Rode NTK, AT 4033/CL, AT4040, AKG C 214, Blue "Bluebird"
any others? Any better suggestions?

I'm a Scorpio. Just funning, but I get your point. Blue has come out with a lot of amazing product, lately. I'm going to have to try out now that the pricepoint is within my realm.
