I'm thinking upgrade time. I want to replace my Behringer 24 channel eurodesk. From everything I read about it, the SL should exceed my expectations with sound quality, recall capability, fx, and an audio interface for Logic or DP. Is this truly a no-brainer....I won't be missing anything (except for 8 channels), and can only gain immeasurable capabilities?

How does the SL handle returning recorded tracks? Does it have a mix B section of additional playback inputs for monitoring those coming back in?
thanks

Hi,

There is no mix b as the mixer is not inline. The way it works is you can choose analog inputs, or digital from the computer. You could run the console split if you think it is necessary, but I wouldn't.

As for what to expect when moving from a Behringer to the PreSonus StudioLive.... well it is like going from an Accord to a Bentley. You never know how much you really need the extra abilities until you get them. The sound quality will blow your mind.

Good luck on your purchase. May the force be with you!

Thanks...looks like there will be a slight learning curve, but well worth it. How do you deal with recorded tracks? Like in basic tracking; record a track, then want to add another track while listening to the one just recorded? Just trying to get an idea of the workflow.

I don't do a lot of studio work but if you're tracking you could do your initial session in the Capture or Studio One software to get multiple tracks in your computer. Then add tracks to Studio one (transfer from Capture if necessary). Reassign your channels . Playback and record new tracks.

I'm pretty sure its a little more complicated than that but not much.

And ignore the gentleman about Presonus tech support. I have been a sound engineer for many years in thelive sound world. Presonus tech support is second to none. I'm not sure what his issue is but I'm sure if he brought it ti their attention they would handle it to the best of their abilities as they have with every issue I've ever had. Good luck getting this level of tech support anywhere else.

The pres aren't boutique grade obviously but are still extremely transparent and the board has the best SNR in the business along with more flexibility than you can shake a stick at. Best I've ever owned. Wouldn't trade it for a board twice its cost except for the SL24.
