Hi All:

Noticed a bunch of threads about our new AI products and I wanted to start a single thread to answer everyone's questions (can't keep up with multiple 5 pages threads )

I'll keep monitoring this thread for the next few days, so ask away!

Cheers,
Wesley

Wesley,

THANKS! I have a couple questions. I notice that the "StudioLive 315AI is perfect for large venues and bands that need full-range speakers with plenty of low end." and "the StudioLive 328AI is a great choice for venue owners and bands who need high-quality speakers that offer enough coverage for normal bar needs yet are powerful enough for a band or a karaoke night."

If I were to buy a pair of one or the other of these to get going with the AI series (no initial purchase of the Sub model), would the 315AI or 328AI be the best choice to get slammin' results?

It seems like the product description gives the impression that the 315 is better for larger venues.

Thanks very much,

~TJ

Question on the speakers:

What are the reasons I would want to use the dual 8" vs the 12" model if I am using them in conjunction with a sub? There's a $200 price difference. What ways is the dual 8" better than the 12"? Better mid-bass response? Louder? Tighter control?

When will the speakers begin shipping? I want to start selling these things yesterday.

The 315 is going to be the most "rockin'" sound. It depends on your application, but if you want the biggest sound, the 315 will probably be the best choice (especially if you don't want a sub).

The 328 will provide better low end than a 312. 2x8" LF speakers in phase with each other are actually just as effective as a single one of the same total surface area. The math works out so that two loudspeakers close together and in phase are actually four times as effective as one loudspeaker of the same size at low frequencies. (i.e. 2 8's are 4 times louder than a single . This is how line arrays work.

To be clear, this is about perceived loudness, not SPL. A 15" will produce a higher SPL, but 2 8" woofers will be perceived as louder at a lower SPL. So you get better fidelity and clarity and big bass at lower SPLs. The net result is that the 328AI probably has the best fidelity of all the speakers. You'll get a more natural sound with it. Sounds great at low and high volumes, but the max SPL is probably going to be a bit lower than the 315 (final specs are still being measured, so the "official" jury is still out)

What driver specs are you after, twostone?

Hi!

I'll warn y'all now: with wood cabinets and big ol' ferrite drivers, the speakers are not light, but they're worth the weight

These are the latest estimates (not official figures), but they're in the ballpark of the final weight:

328AI - 56 lb.
315AI - 71 lb.
312AI - 62 lb.
18sAI - 94 lb.

Oh! and before you ask, the 18sAI does not ship with casters, but we've designed a super cool dolly that you can either just set the 18sAi on (it locks in with the rubber feet) or that you can mount to the bottom of it. This is just for pushing the 18sAi around though. Don't stack a pair of 315AI's on top, we wouldn't want anyone to get crushed.

What is the expected release date for these?
Where can I go to get a demo? I may even consider taking a flight to be able to listen.

They should be shipping by April.

I imagine we'll be launching a clinic tour as soon as they're available, but other than the here in Engineering at PreSonus in Baton Rouge I can't really tell you where and when they'll be available for a listen. Stay tuned to our website and, if you're not signed up the newsletter, sign up for the newsletter, because that's where we'll be letting everyone know as soon as we have demo spaces set up to go for a listen.

Thanks Wesley,

Here are a couple of question I have:

1. The Capture 2 specs indicate 96kHz support but the new SL32.4.2 AI only mentions 48kHz rates. Will 96kHz be supported as some point... maybe when the new Thunderbolt card arrives? UPDATE: I just saw your answer for this in another thread.

2. Can you combine two or more SL 32.4.2 AI mixers to create a supersize mixing console via FW800, Thunderbolt, or ethernet?

Thank you!

HI bedstrom:

Cascading 32.4.2AI mixers will not be supported when it ships in April, but it is on the roadmap. I don't know when this will be added, so don't buy a 32.4.2AI if you need 64 channels now

Looks like I might wave to make my first visit to Baton Rouge

Can you list the sizes along with the weights? In the videos it almost looks like the 312 is the same size as the 315.

These are close, but the depths might be a little off. I can't remember if I made these measurements with the final samples or not

HxWxD:

312AI: 23.8" x 20" x 19"
328AI: 29" x 15" x 15.7"
315AI: 26.4" x 24" x21.5"
18sAI: 21.8" x 26" x 24"

HI Wesley,

just clarification on the mixer - all the product specs state that ALL settings on the desk are recallable, but there is no specific mention that the pres are (as they aren't with the previous SLs). Can you confirm if the pres on the 32ai are recallable or not. thanks
