If you are using Studio One Artist, you will not have project functionality. The Studio One Pro version (an upgrade) has that capability.

You will also not be able to use any VST effects or instruments that do not come with the program unless you ugrade to Pro. The included ones are good though.

Sorry, was trying to add clarity and seems I confused things.

If you mean what are VST instruments and effects (also called "plugins"), they are the software versions of things like keyboards and drums, and compressors, delays, reverbs, etc.

These are created by PreSonus and many 3rd parties.

Studio One supports VSTs differently in Artist VS Pro.

As I understand it, in Pro, you can add any VST instrument or effect. In Artist, you can only use the VST instruments and effects that PreSonus supplies with the program.

This is significant difference, because this means you can not add your favorite mastering plugin as an alternative to purchasing the full Pro version. So if you need to master your songs then you will need to upgrade to Pro, or use another DAW for that purpose.

Still, the plugins PreSonus supplies with Artist (the version I have) are good quality, have the requisite features, and cover most things you would need for recording. I just purchased this last weekend, but am impressed by the ease of use and the supplied plugins.

Hope this helps.

From what I have seen, Artist should be plenty good enough for that.

That is why I bought it. My son has a ton of songs he wants to record, just to get ideas saved. Then we will go back and pick the best and do an album. At that point I will need to upgrade to Pro so I can do the mastering.

Hope this helps.
