Yeah, I now have 2 sons under 2yrs. While I will do everything I can to plan for college, etc, it's looking impossible based on the recent studies/estimates I've seen...let alone trying to save for 'retirement', etc.

I'm thinking buying an isolated farm with a natural water supply might be the best way to spend my money.

I remember the first one : couldn't wait for him to get bigger and to take that next step. With the second one I sometimes think; wtf, she's growing up way too fast!

Again congrats dude. I hope he, mom and you are doing well.

I hear you.

Just maybe (as one option) don't ever take home any pay raises. That's kinda what I did. I pushed most of my salary raises from ATT, whatever the $ amount worked out to be on the very first "new salary check" after taxes, into my 401k.

That way you're saving a little more money but you don't really ever miss it because you never really take it home. It doesn't allow keeping up with the Jones's though... anyway...

Corporate pensions also seem to be coming to a very abrupt end. Even hourly workers were getting $400k/425k lump sum pension buyout checks when they retired so even if they blew most of their personal savings on tuition and similar they'd still have that to fall back on kinda.

Those days are over for most people hired in the last 12-15 years or so.

We've just decided to put everything into a college account for the kids. Since we're losing our home in 13 months, we will put everything we have in an account for the kids college. So buying an isolated farm with a natural water supply is sounding better and better.

I make $30 an hour and I still can't save my home. Go figure. No mortgage company will touch the 2 mortgages (the second one was for the kids adoptions). So if I can give the kids a better start, that's what I need to do.

Good luck Jonathon and CONGRATS!!!
