Just a question to everyone, what's the favorite headphone.
I'm looking for a new pair for loud SPL situations that won't cost me an arm and a leg.

Thanks,
Jim

Still running Sony 7506's. Just because I get em at a good price and they're pretty durable.

Under $100 pretty hard to beat the Sennheiser HD280, there are better isolation phones and better sounding phones but they are a LOT more money...

Dave Ratt did a shootout recently, easily locatable with a keyword search on google... winner? $700 Shure phones... for superb isolation and fidelity that you can discern the differences in microphones the Ultrasones used to be a favorite but were about $400... I do love the 280's but as with any phone you need to get acquainted with them. The one thing is when it gets real loud I have to press in the phones to get the full effect of the LF... but then I'm older than dirt...too

Have you also considered in-ears? If you have any band members on ears, it's great to be able to CUE up their Aux's and hear exactly what they are hearing.

They are definitely more pricey (especially molded ones).

I use the Westones (3 ways). They sound fantastic.

I saw that Dave Ratt youtube series, along with many others of his. I just wanted to see what everyone used with there Presonus.
I'm leaning towards the Sennheiser just for the cost reason right now

Rick, I had a pair of M-Audio dual driver inears, fantastic but the singer needed a better pair of buds and I wasn't using them anymore.
So I sold those to him
This was the Pre-Presonus days. I just might re-visit that at a later date ( when I can clear the funds from the war office)

Thanks,
Jim

In that case, I also will give the Sennheisers a for $99 per pair. They are really hard to beat. I think Shure has a pair for that much but I don't have much experience with them. You might want to check those out for comparison. Let us know which ones you wind up with.

AKG K240 but I like the

Koss KTXPRO1 Titanium Portable Headphones with Volume Control
better when just working on projects w/o the need for isolation.
They sound great, translate well, are comfortable on my head, and our very inexpensive.

I like my Shure SRH 440 headphones, very clear, although I have not tried any others so I couldn't compare. I'm a little bummed I just noticed that they are selling 10 bucks cheaper than I paid for them, I paid 90 (in march) but you can find them for 80 now, WTF! Oh well I do like them alot, solid build, reference level phones.

Maybe you paid 90 with free shipping, and now they are 80 with a shipping charge?

Just trying to make you feel better about your purchasing skills.

Thanks, either way nice phones for < 100, the more expensive srh840's supposedly are the same but with more bass extension. Don't really need that if you use the trick Gadget mentioned of pushing them to your head every once in a while. Some reviews say the 440's are uncomfortable but I have not noticed that at all, of course I do live work so I do most of my listening through speakers not headphones.
