Hey guys!

I just got a new microphone. A modded MXL 990 from Oktavamod.
I was so excited, i just recorded an old song of mine right away.

It's not the best performance. I've made it in an hour.
But please give me any inputs. Especially regarding the voice. Did i EQ'd it right? Did i push the bus compressor too hard?

It's one the first songs i've written, and it's in my mother language, indonesian. It's called 'Di atas Pelangi' (Over the Rainbow)
I'll write down the translation later.

Thanks in advance!

edit: Just wrote the translation here:

Thanks Palaios!
Lol, i guess i really have to learn how to keep things short, right?
But lately i figured out what's the reason of it. As a worship leader in my church I'm used to have the possibility to rewind everything. =)
Have to get rid of that mentality when recording.

Thanks! Yeah it really rocks. Some folks at Gearslutz prefer it even over much pricy mics like tlm 103 or akg 414 or even an u87. I only had a borrowed cheap tbone chinese mic previously , so i can't tell any other comparison. The first i noticed is there is no harsh frequence at all and the bottom end fits my voice instantly. There's no need to use the EQ extensively any more. For 379 $ it's a steal honestly.

Oh i used the stock preamp of my newly bought Profire 610. I'm planning to get a GAP 73 preamp. But for this time I'm completely satisfied.
Cheers,

One should remember that worship songs never work outside church enviroment - I´ve not met any, even those written by me.

Too much repeating same parts. Keep it simple. It´s beautiful song.

As much as You love Your song, cut it half.

People won´t find out on live that it´s double the lenght of recorded version.
(longest one I´ve come across was 30++min I nearly went for coffee during it.)

my few cents as former youthworker for our national lutheran church

You're bringing up something interesting there, Palaios.
As someone who grew up in a very conservative lutheran church, i am actually not a friend of the repetitive behaviour in today's worship music.
I rather 'have to do it' as a leader to 'pick up' the people, to get themselves into the whole thing instead of just singing it with their lips.
But the funny thing is, when they got 'warmed up', they don't want to stop either.
So as you can see, that habit has become my nature in arranging a song.
But truly, thanks for your hint, i always kind of knew it when i hear my own songs.

I have to disagree with it. Xavier Naidoo, one of the most succesful songwriter in germany, actually wrote many quite explicit text with worship elements and stated it in interviews, but people either just ignore those elements, or don't recognize it as such, and just enjoy it or touched by it.
That's why i never hesitate to share my music in a non-religious environment because i still believe in it's 'musical' side, which i hope also touches others.

As long music stays true to it's origins and is well made is worth listening.

What makes my heart ache is spritual/religious music losing it's initial message.
