For the last 30 years I have used Beyerdynamic DT100 400 ohm headphones via a small rack mounted headphone amp.

I need to replace these as they really are falling apart. I don't really want to buy something I'm not used to so I will replace them with another pair of the same.

My question is, does the Presonus 16.0.2 headphone output socket have enough umph to drive the 400ohm version or would you recommend the 16ohm model? If possible I would like to move away from using the headphone amp altogether as it is just more mess in the chain

Sorry, I should have posted this in a different place and don't know how to delete it.

I've tried the Dr Dre one, nothing like as un coloured as the Beyers. They were an option but no. I have to admit, I don't know who Dr Dre is but I'm sure if he says they are good it's nothing to do with marketing

I've tried a couple of them and my stepson of 15 thinks they're the best he's ever heard. My almost half as pricey AKG 242 HD sound more accurate to be honest. I have a pair of Grado PS500's and although they are quite expensive they are absolutely brilliant. Best thing I've heard from headphones TBH.

I have just been looking at the Grado 500s. About the price I was expecting to pay. In the UK I can get them for about 400 GBP (about $650 US) plus delivery. I'm sure a dealer somewhere will offer a better price though. Need to try some this weekend. I would still prefer the Beyers I think but I still don't know if my desk has the power to drive them. The 16ohm domestic version is a bit thin on the upper mid were the pro 400ohm one seem to be more complete but would need the headphone output on the dest to be working overtime I think

Curious what you think of them if you can get a listening session in.

There is a dealer in Birmingham who has them in stock. He said there is nothing like the grado as an audiophile set but doesn't think they will last over 30 years like my Beyers have. I need rugged as I'm a drummer, most cans fall off my head at least once a week. I like the pro aspect of the Beyer were every part is available as a spare part. He has the Grado Beyer and the Dr Dre so I can do a blind fold test.

True, they might be a bit delicate although I've heard very good things in terms of support from them as well. Again, curious as to what you conclude afterwards.

I will post a short review when I get back with whatever I go for. It's going to be an expensive weekend!

I hear really good things about Beyerdynamics DT770. It comes in 250 or 80Ohm versions, so you can get the 80Ohm version for no headphone amp or 250 with amp.

Consider Sennheiser 600 or 650.
